Front line workers should get their paychecks before those at the top.

These are the same corporations that try to guilt trip you if you have a light day at work lmao

    3. The same people whose decisions haven’t turned a profit since 2018 but did lead to a couple of bankruptcies and ultimate collapse of the company are not living without getting theirs.

    4. If you’re looking for people asking why we peacefully tolerate this, just want to throw out there that anyone suggesting otherwise gets banned from this website. Don’t expect to see that increasingly more popular opinion be expressed here

    5. Same executives that made terrible decisions and bled the company dry for their own benefit

      Capitalism… ain’t it wonderful

    6. I’m sorry, what? The people who drove this company into the ground want retention bonuses? For what exactly?

    7. Remember: when an employer steals from you, cops will say, “it’s a civil matter.” If you steal from your employer, it’s an arrest.

lookup the order of payment for bankruptcy. taxes and employee wages are treated as „priority claims,“ which are paid after secured debts but before general unsecured creditors

Hundreds of millions for the stupid ballroom but there’s no money to bail out Spirit.

Executives slept with the creditors, to fuck with the shareholders. Twice.

    11. Execs should be fired first, utterly failing at their job and still wanting a bonus for that, makes no sense.

More accurately, the employees lose their jobs. They don’t lose paychecks for which they’ve already worked. The executives will make sure of that because no payroll paid for hours worked means potential personal liability under state and federal laws. The first money out the door goes to payroll already earned but not yet paid, and the to payroll taxes. After that, everything is a negotiation.

Why in the hell would you want to retain the executive team that ran the company into the ground?

Seems like in this economy there are PLENTY of more qualified people looking to fill their jobs

Retain for what? The planes are actively being returned to the leasing companies now. There is nothing to retain.

    15. End stage capitalism is so fun. I enjoy watching Rome burn from the inside…

Retention to what?!?! How are wages not being funded but ANY bonuses are?!?!

      > Bankruptcy law prioritizes the company’s secured creditors—the Wall Street banks and aircraft lessors like Wells Fargo—over workers. Pilots, flight attendants and ground staff will get whatever is left after Wall Street has picked the bones clean.

      Democracy has spoken I suppose.

Article says Spirit can’t even afford to have a regular liquidation but can afford retention bonus to keep some management there during the wind down?

      Gotta retain execs?

I think we’ve figured out it’s more an aristocratic entitlement, loyalty to the inner circle.

Now there are plenty of sharp hard working bright people. Even at the top. But there’s also guaranteed success for sociopaths in a club and they don’t need talent.

If you were the executive in charge when a business went under you should get a big fat zero

Rich get richer and poor get poorer. Classic.

(By “poor”, I mean those who aren’t the rich executives)

Bloodsucking leeching upper management is what’s wrong with this country.

    22. This use to be illegal. Unfortunately Regan happened an no president since has decided they wanted to help the working class.

    23. ReasonableDig6414 on

You may not like this. However, there is a reason this happens that is legitimate. You don’t need pilots, maintenance, flight crews, ground crews, etc when you are not flying. However, a company DOES need some of the people in corporate to wind down the business. NOBODY wants to stick around if you know you are going to be looking for a job, and all of that brain drain can make winding down impossible. So like it or not, this often happens, but not for the reasons everyone here is upset about.

Take a few business classes and then let’s come back to have a calm, informed conversation.

This is why you NEVER invest your life’s work into a private company over a government job. You will get screwed every time

Well the employees have the keys to the fucking planes. Everybody take one and find a small regional airport
