Also Brazil: burns and clearcuts the Amazon for ranching and logging

As a Brazilian, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a map oriented this way. Interesting, nonetheless.

Equal earth projection… fine
Putting whatever longitude you want at the center… fine
Flipping it upside down… NAH

This is really map porn, granted, the upside down projection isvconfusing since its not what we used to, but it’s pretty interesting nonetheless, I think it’s a really cool and creative map

Number of species per 100km^2: very precise. Low (baixo) to High (alto): not so precise.
By the way, I’m from Uruguay, which now sits right on top of Brazil.

What makes the Amazon so much more biodiverse than other rainforests? Has it been there much longer?

I don’t doubt Brazil leads or is a leader in species richness, but I’d really like to see range classifications on that color gradient.

I love how the scale is utterly meaningless. The point it’s trying to make is valid but there’s a big difference if that scale is linear, logarithmic, exponential, etc. With just a vague low to high scale the Amazon could only be the most biodiverse place by 3 species or 3000.

I understand what they’re trying to do, but I seriously doubt that Southeast Asia & Central America would be this light green or yellow.

It is always fun to confuse people by flipping a single country upside down. Most people don’t even recognize it.

It’s a dumb map, the only other place close to Brazil’s biodiversity is the tropical islands of Indonesia and Brunei, which they split it randomly making it hard to see in this weird projection.

Quer colocar o Brasil no centro do MUNDO?
– Eduque seu povo;
– Baixe impostos;
– Dê educação, segurança, saúde, infraestrutura;
– Fomente a indústria brasileira;
– Fomente pesquisas:
– Combata a corrupção fortemente;
– Combata o narcotráfico, fortemente;
Isso aí é artificial, isso é ridículo, vexaminoso.

Scale going from „low“ to „high“ is retarded tier even for low standards of this sub.
It goes without saying that „data“ here is completely made up.
