probably because they saw the harm conservatism does first hand while they were part of the church

  2. They’re probably following Christian philosophy which is super leftist by today’s standards. Helping poor and sick people…

  3. I’ve been a former Christian for so long that I forgot this applies to me

Lifelong non-believer here..Not sure I agree with this, but could have other factors involved..Not met a former Christian, only reborn ones..Some religious conservatives are actually progressive, but they „think“ thats conservative..

  5. It makes sense because people who actually follow the teachings of Christ understand all people are deserving of love and respect regardless of race gender sex or religion or creed.

If anything, Christ himself is very far left.

If the average American didn’t have the reading comprehension of a 5th grader (54% American adults read below a 6th grade level and 22% of those adults are functionally illiterate) and read the Bible themselves instead of letting some charlatan dictate it for them then the world would be better place. Like the Bible commands you to ‚love thy neighbor‘ 8 times (4 times in the old testament and 4 times in the new testament) yet we’re seeing psychotic levels of cruelty to our neighbors from the so called „Christians“ and bible thumpers.

  7. I wonder if the real distinction is between atheism that is taken for granted and that which is considered. If a person grew up without religion but also thinks deeply about their atheist beliefs, would they be more likely to express anti-conservative sentiment?

That would certainly match my anecdotal experiences.

Imagine leaving a regressive philosophy make you more progressive.

A good chunk of those former Christians were probably members of the LGBT community.
