Iran’s military warned Monday that it would attack U.S. forces that attempt to enter or approach the Strait of Hormuz to escort ships.
Tehran issued its sharpest direct threat yet to American naval assets just hours after Trump announced the U.S. Navy would begin guiding ships through the strait under “Project Freedom.”
“We warn that any foreign armed force, especially the aggressor U.S. military, if it intends to approach and enter the Strait of Hormuz, it will be attacked.” The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said.
The command said it would “with full force, maintain and powerfully manage the security of the Strait of Hormuz” and directed all commercial vessels and oil tankers to refrain from any transit without coordination with Iranian armed forces, warning that any unauthorized passage would put their safety at risk.

I read elsewhere the US navy isnt going to sail through hormuz, but would be „in the vicinity“ . No idea how thats going to help, but hey, what do I know, Im no stable genius.

Waiting for reddit to tell us how the mighty Iranian navy is going to decimate U.S. forces.

I could see trump doing this just to claim Iran attacked the US, unprovoked, and.try to make this a NATO issue.
When NATO pushes back about it, he will try to end NATO.

Will they now? No one is winning in this conflict, and every side seems to be willingly make it worse for themselves. I find the obvious outcomes of tolling a waterway multiple countries have a claim to very interesting. Maybe someone else will want to mine it, as a billion dollar joke. Maybe they’ll do it over and over again until persuaded otherwise, denying culpability every time. Maybe literally anyone in the world could do this if they had enough resources or desire. Anyone on any side could do this. What an idiotic endeavor. The game has already begun, and the only way to win is to not play.
Abandon this strait, let it fall into irrelevance.

Gonna be an interesting few days… My bet is on the US not pressing their luck.

Why would the American navy sail into there? They can sit far away out of Iranian range to have the same effect

Naval ships are sitting ducks in the Hormuz Strait. No way the US Navy admirals are moving ships in there, whatever Trump may be saying

I’d like to see them try to attack the US navy with their little speedboats. They would stand zero.
The biggest risk would be mines.

The response is going to be „proportional“.

On the contrary, by simply surviving, Iran are winning and by being paralyzed and unable to open the strait, the US and the world economy are losing. In a war that is existential, losing means annihilation, They aren’t ever going to agree to that.

Don’t worry Hegseth’s wife will surely have made a plan for this contingency

Even if they sail near the Oman coast it still is about 30km from Iranians shore at the tightest spots. Iam sure they pulled out the books from the 1980s Tanker Wars, but back in 1980 drones didnt exist and Iran had no missile systems capable of precision strikes.
Military escort convoys are only possible after a peace deal is reached (actual peace plan signed by both sides). There is a very valid reason why the Navy is 100s of miles away from Iranian shores…
