Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has demanded that United States authorities provide evidence for their claims that several senior politicians have ties to drug cartels.
Sheinbaum said that without proof, the charges would be treated as politically motivated, marking the latest flashpoint in tense relations between the two neighbors.
Her statement came a day after the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced the indictments against the ten officials from Sinaloa.

These aren’t just random posts in Truth Social, they’re actual criminal indictments. Even in the Trump Era, that takes some level of real evidence to achieve.

I mean it’s no secret that senior Mexican officials have close ties and are bought by the cartels. This has been a known thing forever. The cartels wouldn’t have so much influence otherwise.
The US will probably give her the evidence she asks for but she will just claim it’s fabricated and I can’t really blame her. She’ll look like she’s helping Trump out of she agrees with the evidence. Were the charges politically motivated? Probably, since Trump has made combating the cartels a priority but that doesn’t mean the investigation is flawed. The investigation undoubtedly started before Trump got back into office. I’m sure the Justice Department has sealed indictments and other evidence of crimes committed by foreign officials. They just aren’t acting on it.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has demanded that United States authorities provide evidence for their claims that several senior politicians have ties to drug cartels.
Yesterday, the U.S. Justice Department [indicted](https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/governor-sinaloa-and-nine-other-current-and-former-mexican-officials-charged-drug) Sinaloa Governor Ruben Rocha, Senator Enrique Inzunza, and eight other current and former officials for drug trafficking and weapons offenses.
Sheinbaum said that without proof, the charges would be treated as politically motivated, marking the latest flashpoint in tense relations between the two neighbors.
“If there isn’t clear evidence, it is obvious that the objective of these indictments by the Department of Justice is political,” [said](https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/mexico-president-says-us-extradition-requests-against-sinaloa-governor-others-2026-04-30/) Sheinbaum at a press conference this morning.
