    2. How old is this data? This is low actually. Significantly more in recent decade+ in southern Thai, Andaman etc.

    3. The 3 southernmost, Muslim-majority provinces (Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat) are majority ethnic Malay as well.

      And there has been a long-running issue of Malay separatist violence in those provinces.

    4. Now correlate this info to general insurgency/terrorism, suicide bombings, and attacks against police and military. Southern peninsular Thailand is a tough area.

      Yeah, this makes sense, Islam never got a foothold in continential Southeast Asia they way they did the Islands.
