  1. Kind of reminds me of how comedians try to convince everyone that Jay Leno actually used to be really funny in the 1970s.

  2. Alt title: „The younger generation is waking up to the fact Japanese ‚comedy‘ isn’t actually funny.“

Can’t say I’ve ever seen his comedy or the full show but I like watching Sora Mimi Hour clips on YouTube. What is it about his comedy that isn’t funny? Is it just dated or is it controversial?

  4. I always feel sorry for the poor young woman who has to walk three steps behind him and be amazed about how clever and knowledgeable he is on that history show he does.

‘Japanese young people understand that Japanese comedy isn’t funny and is just incredibly annoying and loud for no reason’

  6. People in these comments saying japan humor is not funny makes me wonder if they ever watched Gaki no Tsukai

That stuff makes me laugh so hard

Didn’t he die a few years back and get replaced by an animatronic figure. Nobody noticed.

Well Tamori is just a relic of Showa. Same for Kuroyanagi Tetsuko. I do think that humor is evolving. Comedian duos like Reiwa Romance, Takuro, are pretty good

There is a lot of stupid generalization happening here. These comments are often translated into Japanese and end up fueling anti-foreigner sentiment. People complain about anti-foreigner sentiment, but comments like these are a big part of the reason it has increased. Alongside very outdated stereotypes—such as drinking party culture—they are used as easy rage-bait content to gain traction. Reddit, in particular, is very popular for this purpose.

Saw a bunch of „comedians“ yesterday and most of their content was based on references I didn’t get, celebrities I don’t know, corny puns and exaggerated loud reactions being repeated over and over and over again. And there were props and ridiculous outfits too.

  11. I don’t need him to be a comedian. I need him to continue to be a tourist having fun on ブラタモリ!

I’ve always said this and I’m not even young. Like dude, you’re old, just retire already let other TV stars shine.
Those TV shows are built with his persona in the center and all other celebrities sitting around scripted to laugh at every word he says.
