Don’t worry the Toronto Suns opinion will change when the next Conservative government is elected.

  2. everything is a crisis here these days due to unchecked greed and poor gov’t policies around population and housing

When I was a young kid you got a job at subway or Tim Hortons or Dairy Queen. Now you can’t.

  4. The part time youth employment is no longer what they are looking for. They can get better and cheaper without much repercussions

  5. Unfortunate_Sex_Fart on

Best the Liberals can do is another million low-skill immigrants.

  6. don’t worry we’ll just import more tfw that will help right?

heaven forbid we deport people who overstayed or broke the law… And allow wages to stabilize completions to happen and actual raises to happen.

Isn’t using a picture for ‘help wanted’ kind of a contradiction?

  8. RefrigeratorOk648 on

So the article has a photo of help wanted and it’s about not being able to find a job…..

  9. This is going to sound terrible but… the parents of these youths voted and benefitted from policies that lead here.

Can we stop blaming left/right??!???!??? Just acknowledge that policies need to change. We can go back to biblical times if we continue to point fingers. At this point who gives a poop? Look forward…. Have none of you played sports or read a book????? It’s the next shift, the next play the next chapter, story arc. Let’s work TOGETHER

As long as we have our elbows up, everything will balance itself out. Sunny ways my friends sunny ways.

  12. It’s such an easy fix but you’re called a racist if you suggest it. Government would rather employ foreigners than their own citizens.

  13. And we have governments saying that we need to boost our birthrate up

    For what? CPP and OAS?

With the looming threat of both AI and climate change, why bring more people into this world to suffer

Just bring in more immigrants, I heard that solves OUR youth unemployment problems.

Friendly reminder that young Canadian citizens are getting burnt since they cant get a part time time job to save up and have fun spending money.

Temporary foreign workers are getting min wage for shitty ass jobs and are favoured since they are more likely to accept being exploited. (Its hard enough surviving now on more than min wage, let alone min wage).

Meanwhile the Walmarts and Westons are lining their pockets.

If we cut back on flooding the market with cheaper labour, our working conditions would probably be better.

The swing to right wing politics is going to be biblical over the next decade when all these young people get older.

Yeah but it’s weirdly by design. Your local Tim Hortons doesn’t want to hire kids. They lobby the government pretty hard to ensure endless TFW labour, which is absolutely not what that program was meant for

  18. Yet, numerous police services can’t get people; the military can’t get people; restaurants claim they can’t get people (so they need tsw’s);

I smell a rat in all this stuff. And “crisis” is at best a joke as a descriptor of the real world.

Youth who can’t work; who live on their phones; who can’t talk to a customer; yeah, they are gonna have a hard time. Those who do the right things are growing and moving forward. I see them all the time. And I see the others too.

In my area there are job postings in most retail and groceries stores I walk into. Conversely, nearly every teenager I know can’t land a job. There’s definitely a disconnect somewhere. Either the store owners are not interested in hiring the youth, or the youth aren’t interested to work under the proposed conditions of the store. And where I live we don’t have many immigrants- they’re mostly foreign students here on student visas because not enough local kids are pursuing higher education, so the universities set up programs to get students from elsewhere to fill their classes. Anyway, all that to say that a while ago my husband over heard a guy while waiting in line at Tim Horton’s, complaining that he can’t find people to do manual labor for his landscaping company. Curious, my husband « followed » him out into the parking lot and made a note of the company’s name printed on the vehicle the guy climbed into. My husband then went online and found zero job postings on the website. Nothing really on social media either and a quick search on the regular job search engines didn’t yield any results (well, one actually but it was for a temporary accounting job at their office). Of course this is all anecdotal but I can’t deny the evidence that there’s definitely a disconnect between the employer and the candidates…

Bc and Alberta can’t get enough seasonal workers. Begging young people for all positions at the resorts. Go west, live in a dorm, have fun, learn something, see Canada, save money.

  21. Kykio_kitten on

Yeah cause the liberals have allowed canada to be flooded with immigrants we don’t need at the demand of businesses who don’t want to pay workers or have to uphold any business standards

  22. __NOT__MY__ACCOUNT__ on

Where do teenagers even work these days? All the fast food places are middle aged TFWs

  23. SnowyOranges on

Small businesses complaining that there aren’t enough customers, which is why we got RTO. I wonder who the biggest spenders on food are who now don’t have money to spend?

  24. Foreign workers and shady business practices taking advantage of government programs are definitely to blame for this. Our young people aren’t getting a fair shot.

  25. Strange-Salt720 on

This is the unfortunate issue. When these kids get to voting age, they will absolutely vote to the extreme right. If you gaslight the youth by saying the economy is doing better than expected and it not actually reflected in their lives, resentment builds up and you get really extremist leaders down the road. There needs to be some immediate long term relief for youth who can’t find opportunities. They also need a really big win or else the future is destined for chaos.
