      Last year they made ICE an essential service. They continue to operate whether funded or not.

      What happened here was a negotiation, which is literally the job of congress.

      Yeah but they are funding ICE through reconciliation. Unfortunately the story isn’t quite over yet. No guarantee the maneuver will work but they aren’t done trying. Hopefully the Senate is reading the public sentiment tea leaves.

      Visiting family who has fox “news” on all morning. They (fox) are saying that ICE is funded for 3 years and this bill is a win for them

      Thats good but i have a feeling like they’re going to find some illegal way to fund ice anyway and nobody will be able to stop them.

      Ngl I completely forgot there was another shutdown going on. There’s been 12 federal shutdowns since 1980 and trump has been president for 5 of them. Most likely it won’t be his last either

      Of course they caved. When they’re done fixing the midterms and get supermajorities in both houses, they’ll fund ice and defund everything else.

      Side note: this passed but now they intend to simply pass a reconciliation bill for ICE & anything else left out that doesn’t need the 60 Senate votes to pass filibuster.

      Honestly, my tin foil hat think it was some political trade off for gutting the Voters right act. It was giving crumbs to the democrats. It also makes republicans look a little competent in keeping DHS going. A distraction as well from the gerrymandering.

      Republicans going to try again in 8 months if they win mid terms.

      I decided to check X, and apparently this isn’t even a talking point for the trolls and bots. I’m kinda astounded. For some reason a bunch of them are going on about Obama. But not ICE.

      The government can’t be funding Ice right now. We are fight wars.

      Wish we would have held out at the first shutdown last February. ICE got most of its funding before this one.
