They are about to pass China in births per year too, which is crazy because I remember growing up in the time where 1/4 babies born in the world was in China. (queue the if you have 3 older siblings that means you are the Chinese one joke).

  2. In Europe (+ entire Russia), children are less directly tied to economic survival. Most people rely on wages, pensions, and state systems rather than large families for support. Combined with long education, high living costs, and widespread female employment, this has led to smaller families and later parenthood.

In Nigeria, children often still play a more direct economic and social role, especially outside major cities. Family networks remain central to support, and with a much younger population and earlier family formation in some regions, more people are having children at any given time. Higher fertility also reflects different stages in the shift that follows improvements in child survival.

  3. About 1.5 milion dies before they reach 5 iirc, so it’s practically even.

Nigeria is not self sustainable in terms of food. If something happens to fertilizer supply chain we’ll see famines unprecedented in the history of mankind.

“Not alarming at all” – every government elite on the planet

You can add Turkey to that, a country with 88 million people, Nigeria would still have higher births.

Exclude the 99% unihabited part of russia and this looks a lot less dramatic

This whole post is engagement bait for the closet racists to crawl out of their mom’s basements

  9. Keep in mind Nigeria gov also has to make sure all those new people gonna get good paid jobs in the future or they gonna have massive migration and/or too many people not enough job at home.

This is a real thing, and we’re about to reach a meet population decline as more of the world develops, but the map projection also shrinks Africa and balloons Eurasia. It’s inappropriate for the days presented.

The next few decades are gonna be interesting to see. Africa is the only continent where the majority of countries have birth rates above the replacement rate. Europe, Asia and the Americas are gonna have a need for young people to work and keep their respective economies active. In the future, some of these countries might have to fight for more immigrants, which I’m sure certain right-leaning sections of their population will be ***totally*** normal and fine with.

The reason Nigeria has more births is because many girls and women have little or no say in their reproductive health, and many little girls are married off to adult men and forced to start carrying his babies. 11% of girls in Nigeria are married *before* they are even 15 years old!

Ok so can we stop talking about the „population collapse“ them ? There’s your population, if you’re still worries about population is because you don’t like that they’ll be black

That’s the really funny thing though, we still expand in global number of humans and this is exclusively carried by the middle east and africa. For real every other region in the world gets less kids except those two

My brain can’t believe this. The gravity of this situation seems insane and is very worrisome

Nigeria has about a third the population of Europe (~250 million vs 750 million). Still crazy, but not as crazy as it might seem at first.

  17. Europe and America would be wise to open up their immigration to absorb some of these young people: it’s the only way our economies don’t fall off a cliff like Japan, NK, and China are destined for.

  18. Nigeria don’t have the infrastructure or wealth to support these births. With limited family planning, outdated beliefs and child marriages, they produce way more children than they can support.

This isn’t just a Nigerian thing though. Before the increase in healthcare, having more children ensured some lived in to adulthood, but this isn’t necessarily needed now, but some cultures, especially those who don’t practice the use of contraceptives, are still producing large amounts of children despite there being no need to, but the culture is baked so far in to them that they still do this.

  19. This is the biggest tragedy happening right now.

Hundreds of millions of children born into desperate poverty.

If this continues we will see the largest famine ever to occur on this planet.

    Hundreds of millions of refugees.

    It will be apocalyptic.

    Yikes Europe.

That’s gonna put a lot of strain on Europe’s countries whenever there are way more pensioners than people paying into government aid. It’s gonna be a tax-induced hell and everyone is gonna be poor until huge waves of people die off and the populations collapse.
