Any immigrant who commits serious crimes should be deported no questions asked.

    2. “Could be”? Ffs. In the words of Joe Biden, “cmon man”. We have millions of people who want to be productive members of society, there is no reason to keep him here. He had a chance and his actions have consequences. Those consequences mean he goes home.

    3. “The defence claimed that the whole matter was a “cultural misunderstanding.”

      Sure sure.

    4. Lol wtf? Could be?

I guess in fairness „child abductor“ could refer to a divorced dad taking his kids somewhere when he doesn’t have custody at that time.. but even then, not great.

Edit: the story from the article generally sounds like he was just trying to be friendly and didn’t know that picking up random kids and taking them out to eat ice cream isnt considered normal in Canada.

Bizarrely he basically took the kid out for ice cream, then drove him home, and tried to give the kids dad his business card as a realtor…

Can anyone from (i presume India) tell me whether this would actually be considered normal?

      # „child abductor“ and „could be deported“ should not be in the same sentence

    6. I personally find it racist how the media keeps portraying India and Pakistan as virtually hell on earth to return to.

    7. I’m sure the CBC will give us a sob story next week about this poor misunderstood child abductor.

I read this and think that dude had plans for the kid and chickened out. Giving the parents his real estate card sounds like cover, a last minute panic story.

When I was a kid and since then, kids have had it drummed into them that you don’t accept rides from strangers.

Pretty sure we’ll be stuck with him thanks to some weak-kneed judge. Commit a crime, home you go should be the standard.

I’m getting so sick of this “could be”. They should serve their sentences and then be sent to their country of origin.

    11. How the fuck could this possibly be a “cultural misunderstanding” ?

Glad the judge firmly rejected that argument. People who abduct and abuse children have a very special place in hell waiting for them.

Can we really afford to be so culturally insensitive that we don’t give a free pass to a guy trying to abduct a child?

What do they mean “could be”? He abducted a child, get his ass outta here. Easy peasy.

CBC journalists assemble! Sob story coming up. What will happen to his pet gerbil!? He once gave directions to an Amazon driver so that an old lady got her package on time.

This is no cultural misread. His intentions were not innocent.

His behaviour was suspicious enough that two groups of strangers seperately called police and notified the parents. He drove the kid past the house but did not stop. He had photos of the kid on his phone.

The judge made the right call in this sentence.

    16. „In the bizarre case, the court heard that Govindbalunikam arrived in Thessalon that day in 2023, driving a bright yellow Chevrolet Camaro. He spoke with the nine-year-old victim at the mouth of the Thessalon River and offered him a fidget spinner and gave the child his business card.“

A fidget spinner and his business card.
