      There *is* a bright side to this. According other articles about this, these will only be available at the D.C. passport agency, so presumably a lot of the people with these will specifically have sought them out. That’ll make them a great way for other countries to decide whether someone is fit to enter their borders.

      Since it seems to have gone unnoticed, I think it’s worth mentioning that **not all passports will have this „feature.“** [They’ll only be available at the Washington passport agency](https://www.politico.com/news/2026/04/28/trump-passports-state-department-00896221), meaning if your application is processed at any other agency, you’ll get a normal passport; and if you’re unfortunate enough to live in D.C., it might be worth traveling elsewhere to submit your application. And it’s also very possible that you’ll have to specifically ask for one of these anyway, like you do if you’re asking for a passport with extra pages or something.

      The point is that **nobody is going to be stuck with one of these**. To be clear, I’m not saying „it’s cool, they’re optional!“ This is still fascist bullshit more befitting of North Korea than the United States. I just think it’s worth reassuring everyone responding „but my passport expires this year!“ You’ll be fine — you’re not going to get one of these unless you (for some reason) want one!
