Each box on the graph represents 5 students, but I rounded up on the last box.

It’s impressive that the top spelling isn’t the correct one, wonder where they get it from

Oh damn I also teach 9th graders, I could probably add a few to this list! I get some wild spellings for sure. This is fun!

Wow this is cool! Do you collect this data each year? Do you see trends in different spellings?

Man, seeing this word written out so many different ways is making me second guess how to actually spell it. They’re all starting to look a little bit right and a little bit wrong.

Whelp, today I learned how to spell camouflage.

I’m disappointed you’ve never had camoflaj.

I like the ones trying to get a chameleon in there somehow. There’s a certain logic to it.

To be fair. I have a doctorate. I struggle to spell. This word is one I’d get wrong.

If I were an American child, and were to spell it phonetically, it’d be something like kemflage, kamefladge, or camoflage if I were aware of „camo“.

I consider myself a great speller but this word pisses me off every time

Just wait until you test adults without spell check.

I consider myself a good speller even without auto correct… And yeah I did know how to spell it but seeing all the options…. I doubted myself lol

Not only kids use creative spellings. I used to edit math textbooks. On a draft of one page, the word “isosceles” appeared three times — with three different spellings.
(You’d figure that at least two out of three spellings of “isosceles” would be the same ….)
