I’ll return after the reckoning. If they charge and sentence Trump and apologize.

    I’m not holding my breath

I’ve lived and worked in the US for way too long, I’m not sure I’ll ever come back once I’m home again.

  3. keylimesicles on

I’m not going back anytime soon, and Florida is like home to me. So this burns, but the US just isn’t what it was and I don’t think it will ever be. Sucks though because my sister and fathers ashes are spread in Vegas

I know many people, including myself, who will likely never travel there again, whether or not their government improves. Trump has not burned bridges. He’s nuked entire towns.

They think we are weak, they treat us badly. I for one have to much pride to just turn the other cheek

I won’t be setting foot in that wasteland for decades, if ever. Trump getting elected not once but twice tells me America is broken beyond repair, at least for the next few decades.

Even when he’s dead (🤞) or out of office, all of the dumbfuck people who voted for him are still there, raising their kids to be just as dumb and disgusting as they are.

It’s not safe, with or without Trump.

The only thing that tempts me to cross the border is concerts… But still not crossing over until all trumpians are gone and ice/detention centers are gone as well

  8. Us non-white Canadians are honestly afraid of getting deported to El Salvador.

We used to take 2 trips a year to the US but we are done. It isn’t just Trump, it’s the system and people that would vote him in 2 times. I see the protests and know a lot of Americans want him out of office, but that doesn’t move the needle for me. Complaining with no practical change is getting old.

  10. I am waiting to be able to private pay for an MRI in the GTA and not be told to go to Buffalo. Most provinces don’t block you.

an israeli / palantir x corp oligarch pedophile-elite controlled state – no thanks lol

Meh only 25 to 30% Canadian decline (5% of their total international travel). Should be much higher. And probably would take much more before they really start to take notice (Americans are not exactly known for their awareness of global events in the first place)

Point of no return? Sure, I guess.

For myself, I have no need or desire and definitely not the means to go to the United States.

What do they have there for a person such as myself?

I am a low-income person with 2 roommates. One of my roommates has mental health problems (extreme anxiety) and the other roommate is special needs that I am the caregiver for (24-7 supervision). I am in my mid-40s. My spare time is playing video games, exercising, and learning various topics out of my own curiosity.

Travel is not within my means. I lack money. I have debt from COVID and caregiving.

My personal situation in itself means that there is no way I will be going there.

If I were to travel, I would stay within Canada. Though that is also expensive because a 1 night stay in a hotel is expensive (so I share a hotel room with other people) and also transportation between cities (bus, train) is limited and costs money.

Overall, Canada does have nice places to check out when possible.

The United States have been placed on a pedestal for far too long. They are not the center of the world. They are not worth the time or money. Time and money can be allocated to things of more priority.

I left the US in 2021. Haven’t visited since and I live 20 minutes from the border.

The US are looking at your phones when you cross the border back to Canada. The US can detain without due process and send you to el Salvador even if you show a Canadian passport. They don’t see Canada as a neighbour anymore, just a place with resources and illegals that will sneak into the US.

I have a fair paying job that is done by prison labour in the US so I’ve always disliked the US even before the trade war. It bothers me a lot that there are people in the US who have committed non-violent crimes of poverty and then they get thrown in jail and forced to do a good paying job for a few cents an hour. Maybe I’m an asshole for complaining about the negative impact that other people’s slavery has on me but it has to be bad for my potential wage growth to have an entire country using slavery to do my job.

So there is basically no point of return for me at least. Unless the US improves to the point where they get rid of their prison labour system but I’m not expecting that much.

  17. I haven’t been and won’t go until the Cheeto is out of office. I use to go a couple times a month and had three trips planned until Trump opened his big mouth so we went to Mexico and back to Europe. Thus keeping 15k out of the US, I can’t think of a better way to show them we won’t be pushed around it to take our money elsewhere. (I feel bad for all the folks affected by this but unfortunately you voted him in…

Ive avoided the states entirely since 2016 and will continue to do so.

  19. Just-Signature-3713 on

Yup no interest. I don’t even like layovers in their airports and plan trips accordingly

  20. Just booked a vacation week in the Rockies in my own beautiful country 🇨🇦

  21. fonzieshair on

Over 70 million people voted for that dimwit. Even after Trump’s gone I’m never going back down there again. 70 million reasons why.

  22. Booking flight next year to Scandinavia and the return flight is horrible hours/layover. An alternative is to land in Dallas as a layover and we agreed to not choose that since we’d have to go through customs even though the hours are x10 better.

Think 3.5 layover and a 11:40am flight. Now it is a 7:50am flight and a 8hr layover elsewhere.

Not only do we have no interest visiting (world is way more interesting anyways and we haven’t visited since 2015), we won’t even do layovers.

  23. I’m a dual citizen and I haven’t been back since September … that was an emergency trip to get something for my wife who has cancer.

    But yes, haven’t gone back.

My parents got searched 4/5 times when they went back to the U.S. … first time being searched in 4 decades … they’ve crossed the border over 1000 times…. And now they get searched.

The U.S. administration is pathetic at best

  24. One issue is even when the Dems get in they tend to keep the policy of the last admin.

So there seems to be no way out even if he gets voted out.

If they hold trials and imprison the fascists, make financial amends to the countries they threatened and damaged, and return to constitutional government, maybe we can talk. Until then may as well be North Korea.

I live in a border city and haven’t visited the US since 2024. Just thinking about it makes me feel very uneasy.

  27. SuggestionShort7943 on

I can’t say never as I have grandchildren there. We haven’t been for over a year to this point but that’s not tenable going forward. Really thought this would be rectified by now.

  28. Avoiding suggests it’s a possibility.

The thought of heading south no longer even crosses my mind.

I drove from NYC up I87 yesterday. There were many Quebec plates on the road. More than I was used to seeing.
