as a armchair expert i would think that actually hitting something might be more useful.

I’m surprised that Russia and Mali don’t widely employ small strike drones and surveillance drones in that region. If there is a place where FPV drones in volume can be useful, it would be here. Because of the flat desert, the insurgents can raid and overrun a base with 50 dudes on 30 bikes. That’s what they’ve been doing in that region for years. Wiping bases with dozens of soldiers a pop.

Quickly, fire rockets in the general direction of the enemy!

A lot of people are saying that they’re shooting in a random direction, but in their defense we probably can’t see them through a compressed phone (?) video, it’s probably much clearer IRL. Also you don’t need clear visual confirmation to engage a target, if a weapon is powerful enough you just need to know their general location.

This is like the one conflict where they can be pretty sure there aren’t MANPADs and SAMs, and they still can’t help but just spray rockets everywhere.
Obviously there’s a risk of machine gun fire, but that’s the CAS mission. No avoiding it. Those rockets would be so much more useful if fired in a direct attack run from closer in and/or higher up.
