Definitely a step in the right direction! I have to admit, this is a very clever solution.

    I love it!

My corner Döner shop has between 151 and 200 review removed for diffamation!

    That’s great.

And the first thing google’s done in quite a while that isn’t just evil and backwards but instead actually provides users with a little more information rather than just useless slop.

I checked Mozzamo Gassnerstr where they removed one of my reviews, but I don’t see that. Maybe I need to update maps

Edit: updated Maps but still don’t see it

Also checked Großwirt on Volkartstr, another restaurant that reviewed a 3 star review, and don’t see anything there either.

Will check the Browser. Might be just a delay on my app side

„Uno reverse“ on all the businesses misusing this defamation rule.

    Well played Google 👏🏼.

  6. Ahh okay, it shows up if at least one review has removed for „defamation“. What’s surprising is, I expected it to show up for some more places.

Finally, only in Germany my negative reviews were deleted… I don’t trust Google Maps in Germany anymore. But I don’t see this feature in my Google Maps 🧐 anyone else?

  8. Key_Classroom_22 on

I wish it would show a %. I wrote a comment few days ago that got deleted too. I think they are removing about 70% of the reviews at the moment (there is a lot of bad reviews that keeps being deleted)

Is there a setting to enable that? I’ve updated the app and checked a couple of restaurants that removed my review, but there’s nothing shown

This is a great development. I had wondered why they didn’t do this. I just found my first local restaurant with 100-150 reviews removed in the last year and a 4.9 rating. Needless to say, I will not be frequenting this establishment.

  11. This is extremely important. Now we will definitely know where not to go. I hope they don’t have issues with that

  12. Beginning_Green_740 on

Wouldn’t that by itself be a defamation? They remove reviews based solely on receiving a complaint – it’s not like in example picture there were 51 court decisions clearly ruling the defamation and explicitly ordering Google to remove those reviews?

  13. Global_Region4773 on

removed reviews **over the past year!!**

There are stores and businesses that have had 100 reviews removed out of 200. lol.

and i think it is caped to „more than 250“

Would be awesome to have some scraper to collect data for top lists for each major city.

None of the places abusing this to keep the reviews high deserves any organic traffic.

  15. I can’t see this feature in my version. Strange. No updates for the app available and current state iOS.

What system did you find this feature on? Because I know for sure that at least one of the Döner Kebab restaurants removed quite a lot of bad reviews.

Edit: Thanks. I found it. You can stop commenting. I was stupid.

That’s great. But I don’t see anything. I think I have the latest update. Any recommendations? Thanks

FINALLY. All my reviews that aren’t 5 stars are removed from most businesses.

  18. Click on „Details“, it should say „in the past year“. Yikes. At least it does for me for a business which removed my review a little over 13 months ago. And some others that I’ve seen in the past are also gone.

  19. zenrobotninja on

Just added a screenshot of the amount of reviews that have been removed for defamation to the review of an Italian in Munich. Along with a 2 star review.
My only comment was ‚I think the screenshot speaks for itself‘
    Let’s see that happens.

I smell unions preparing to sue Google for defamation against the German service sector!

  21. D0ntC4llMeShirley on

It’s very refreshing to check on your favourite restaurants and they have very few if any removed reviews.

  22. Finally now German consumers can know where to go and who to give their business too! It was very unfair to the consumer to go to shady and hidden places with inaccurate reviews!

  23. bigasslemons on

Oh wow… I was planning to go this restaurant that opened in my city a few months ago by a famous food influencer and it says “151-200 reviews have been removed etc” 😒

  24. False_Ad5119 on

„Half of All people eating in my Restaurant are filthy liars!“ – A lot of Restaurant owners, probably

  25. Orangeflag88 on

I cant see it was it already removed again? Is it not working with the google maps app?

  26. Embarrassed-Ad755 on

Not transparent enough. I saw one company where the bad reviews were deleted but there was no mention on the page. They are not counting everything.

Even just one removed so called defamation already raises concerns. Obviously not defamation, but real honest feedbacks that were forced removed. It is rare that someone will leave a bad review out of the blue. The act of just googling the company and writing about the bad experience, very few people will waste their time doing so, they obviously really had a bad experience and were pissed enough to take their time to leave the reviews.

  27. That’s a nice feature. Was just checking restaurants in my city where I assume their ratio is off the limits. I didn’t get disappointed.

But also some rare W’s with like 1-5 removed out of 2.2k ratings.
Their rating is still not the best, but at least they’re honest about it.

  28. Jury-Technical on

Finally. One of the worst aspects of German culture is the slap mentality against bad reviews.
