    1. This picture perfectly paints it that Malta is not equipped for the current level of population.

Worst thing, the tourists still haven’t arrived

It was something like safe distance during covid? How? Even now(when situation on the photo is not bad, I’ve seen more crowded buses many times) sometimes you have to wait for next bus because there is not enough space for everyone in this one you were waiting for last half hour.

    3. It’s why I started learning which buses to take based on how empty they usually are by the time they reach me instead of how fast I can get to where I need to go

A tram/train would have been a good idea some ~100 years ago

Or 90 or 50 or 10 or tomorrow

Keep them coming! Give the continuity vote and continue enjoying this.

The situation is beyond ridiculous. What the hell are they waiting for to increase bus frequency?

Also, whats up with men opening their legs at a 180 degree angle when sitting down? There’s literally no air to air out your balls. And you’re minimizing my space

I was there for 7 days in March at db seabank. As most buses start at cirkewwa. Our trips to locations from malleiha we had seats. The opposite way, we always stood.

Trust me the buses from Tarxien are VERY RARELY empty, especially very early in the morning.

This picture is my daily routine.

    10. What accident? The bus drivers dont have a valid Maltese driving license…. overcrowded busses is nothing next to other issues.

    11. The solution to this is more and better buses.

Unfortunately, achieving that would require fewer cars with a single person sat in them clogging up the roads. People won’t get out of their car without an incentive (positive or negative).

Buses can be made more frequent, funded by increasing the costs of car use in the most congested areas. Places like New York, London etc achieve this with a „congestion charge“.

I’ve noticed one thing as an older dude (with white hair)

If I get on a busy bus, someone offers a seat and it’s always an African, Indian or SE Asian person. It’s never a European (or Maltese)

I don’t usually take the seat because I’m fit. But with an election coming up, remind your representatives that you want bike lanes and bus lanes.

    13. What a difference from 36 years ago! What country is this? When I was in Malta 36 years ago, the buses didn’t look like this. There is not one Maltese person on it. And I can bet the driver is not Maltese either. WTH 🤦🏻‍♀️

EDIT: This looks more like a Third World Country.

Improve cycling/walking infrastructure – a lot of people who catch busses would cycle if it wasn’t life threatening.

More bus-only roads/lanes. There is no reason why a bus shouldn’t have its own lane on the coast road.

Increase busses and introduce some standing-only busses. Perhaps a 60/40 split (60% with seats). This would alleviate crowds on seated busses where the space is so limited.

If you care about this so much, make sure you and everyone around you doesn’t vote Labour in the next election. They created this situation. Vote for literally anyone else.

I used to take the bus in Durrës Albania and during rush hours the busses were packed so much people could not get off at their stop every seat was taken

Stop complaining and remember what to do in the privacy of your voting booth

The government clearly needs to invest more in public transport – but somehow „the best budget ever“ didn’t include any increase in funds towards public transport…

    18. WFH should be mandatory for Maltese office workers, I really can’t think of another solution that could help. I guess we could build a subway sure, but WFH’s effects are instant and free

    19. This is why I don’t use buses. That and being 6ft tall, broad shouldered and allergic to the heat lol

I literally do not fit in the seats, and will be a sweaty mess after waiting for and then riding on a bus.

    20. Pure_Platypus5171 on

The driver is to blame , there are regulations on how many passengers should be on the bus . Where are the conductors?? I work in law enforcement and have fined 5 bus drivers in the last 2 months for infractions ( not minor ones either )

    21. Human_Ad9684 on

Going from MCAST to Marsaskala is one bus ride away but I always just go to Valletta first to catch any of the skala busses cause I’d rather just find a seat over being packed like a sardine.

    22. Malta’s population is nearing 700k and the island is not equipped for that number of people.

    23. That, the fact that even when possible a lot of companies don’t allow remote working which increases traffic, frustrations and pollution.

Unfortunately it seems we’ve learned nothing from COVID-19. Shame.

What safe distance protocol? Situations like this were common during covid days.
