Republicans have an age problem, too, and we’re suffering far more from that than from this.
Congress has an age problem. Orrin Hatch, Strom Thurmond, Dianne Feinstein, just for the extreme examples, plus a bunch of 80-somethings.
This has been an issue for decades, we were upset because they never cared about long-term consequences, being dead and all when they’d happen.
And yet for all their belly aching about Platner they still refused to make his primary opponent anyone except Janet Mills who’s just 2 years younger than Scott was.
And the less said about Feinstein the better and even then at least that was California which the same could not be said of RGB’s mentality.
And just for the hell of it, yes even Bernie should retire at this point even if he’s still way more active and cogent than the others.
They’re genuinely acting as if no young Democrat-minded people want to go into politics.
There is an election being held this year. If you are planning on voting Democrat do your research and vote in the primaries. Vote out the old guard and corporate shills that run the Democratic party and replace them with representatives who will put the good of their constituants over money and power.
Politics has an age problem. Too many old white men who still think they have it.

The CBC is problematic for Democrats because they value maintaining their own power over having Democratic majorities and are extremely well-insulated from primary challenges for cultural reasons. To be clear, it’s not just the CBC with age issues, but as a caucus, [the members are quite old and stick around a long time](https://goodauthority.org/news/black-members-of-congress-cbc-aging-but-not-stepping-down/). I’d love to see a new generation of Black leaders take over, but that would require people stepping aside before they croak.
A lot of these people are in super safe districts, that have probably shifted way to the left under them.
These are the kinds of districts that progressives should be winning, to help push the party left.
Instead you got a guy like Scott who voted to ban same-sex marriage, crossed the aisle to vote for Republican tax cuts under Bush, is a war hawk, and got caught reciting a speech word-for-word written by pay-day lender lobbyists.

It would’ve been nice if we learned anything from RBG’s destruction of her own legacy but nope, these old fucks just want to hang on to power as long as possible no matter the consequences to the people they claim to serve or the policies they claim to champion.
It’s their own damn fault for pushing out anyone who was pushing fo change. This guy didn’t exactly have a sterling reputation for ethics. The problem in the US is we have a right-wing party & a far right-wing party.

Ahh, news flash, it’s not just Democrats. Mitch McConnel is having fainting spells, falling over and physically, and mentally, IMHO incapable of performing his duties. The average age of Congress is 59 years old, House: 57 and Senate is 64! Vote out the old farts, get some new blood in the mix.
At this point I think it’s clear that there’s an industry of people that run campaigns that latch onto successful members of Congress and run them over and over again on name recognition. Those campaigns are easy money for them, and they can do a weekend at Bernie’s routine once they’re in office if needed. Make it easy enough for the candidate and it’s almost as easy as being retired, so the candidates don’t mind. It’s pretty sad.

The rule can be simple. Once you reach the age you collect Social Security you can’t run for office again, but you can finish your term.

My current congresswoman’s (Doris Matsui, CA-7) bio emphasizes, „I was born in a WWII internment camp.“ Well, I’m genuinely sorry for that, but go home and retire. Her primary opponent was told to Wait Her Turn. I’m done with waiting because it’s clear they don’t want to leave.
No one over 70 should be elected in any capacity in any position in government.

Democrats win with machine politics. So once you’re in it’s very hard to get you out. Makes AOC winning the primary more impressive.
Most of the problems with the Dem party are tied to that reliance on the machine. Politicians want to be Politicians for life with little threat.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg had 8 years with Obama to retire and waited until the orange pedophile was president. The geriatric fucks need to be forced to retire.
This is the clearest sign to me that not every generation complains equally about the generations below them. Boomers are the worst because they literally won’t let anyone else attempt to do the jobs they’ve aged out of because they don’t trust anyone younger to do as good of a job, while instead they rot in their seats and let the country rot alongside them.

Democrats not only have an age problem, the DNC is a corrupt pyramid scheme intended to preserve the two party system and the continued attack on middle and lower class Americans. The GOP is a horrible and even more corrupt political organization that never could have succeeded without the predictable and consistent level of ineptitude and dysfunction demonstrated by the DNC and party elite.
