    Remember japan have 99% conviction rate thing? Some of those arrest/conviction is less than „rightful“ arrest so to speak.

    for the most part, persecutor usually drop the case (like nearly half of them) if they doesn’t have enough for conviction but once they sent it to the court…

    once the case in court, Persecutor and police is much more invested getting the conviction in disregard whether the suspect is actually guilty or not.

    No wrongful conviction or series of trial loss because, IF they lose, they will retrial it again and again. despite what’s actually right. its the conviction and „saving face“ that matters to them

    hence the revision to the law.
