How is this even a question? It’s surprising we’re not revoking the ~~passports~~ visas of the fake opposition living inside EU

    2. It’s very simple really, just ask them about Crimea at the border control and they will reveal themselves in a second.

    3. EastClintwoods on

How? Will they have a sign in their passport saying “Russian veteran”?

      Just ban them all.

    4. The fact that Hungary finally had elections and the EU instantly materialized a €90B package within 24 hours is hilarious. They literally had their finger hovering over the ‚Send‘ button just waiting for the veto blocker to get out of the way

On the fifth year of war. That is some speed there. Does EU consist of workers like Blitz from Zootopia?

    6. AsozialesNetzwerkOB on

So basically they want to make it even more impossible for Russian deserters to seek asylum within the EU?

    7. Sudden-Conclusion931 on

Why allow any Russians at all? Even if theyre not directly involved in the war in Ukraine, or hybrid war, espionage and sabotage within the EU, the vast majority support Putin and the war. The only thing that will hurt them is isolating them completely.

      >that by signing a contract

If we put aside the fact that it disincentivizes desertion, what about the people who were forced to participate either by being forced to sign contract or by directly being mobilized? I understand that it’s a minority but it’s a minority that has nowhere to go and no one to turn to. And if we look at the situation on the ground, there’s a non-zero chance that the amount of people who were forced into the army might significantly increase very soon

      >He added that the move is “fair,” arguing that those who “fight a war to harm Europe and European states” should not be allowed to travel there, and urged all EU member states to support the initiative.

I feel like what would be unquestionably fair is something like revoking visas, residence permits and citizenships of children of Russian oligarchs, government officials and propagandists. You know, to hurt the actual decision-makers and the actual war criminals and their shitlings directly benefitting from the war. Somehow that’s still not on the table 5 years in

I can’t view this news article as anything other than theatrics while Huylo’s daughter has the time of her life in Paris holding art exhibitions and partying and Solovyov’s son enjoying his London lifestyle

Would this include the newly elected Bulgarian prime minister? He was a fighter pilot for USSR, back when. 🤷‍♂️

    10. I absolutely love that move it should have been done a long time ago.

      Glad that it gets done

    11. Random-useless-lore on

      We should let them enter.
      Then deport them to ukraine.
That way ukranian prisoners can be exchanged.

Here in the UK, British citizens are literally going to Israel to fight, and coming straight back with no issues whatsoever.

Ban their propagandists too. It means Trump won’t be allowed to visit, but so be it

    14. Was really surprised a few months ago when I saw someone with a Novorossiya flag on its backpack exiting the arrival section of a french airport.

Good that the hole is plugged (so long there are exceptions for special cases)

is it really fair that a russian criminal, conscripted into a war they likely do not want to fight in, then has their movement restricted? it just seems a tad cruel

    16. JxhnBxnRambx on

This so funny to me, imagine up until now, being a russian soldier, fighting for your live to get a few meters further into europe, then you return home, and now you just fly there for vacation no problem

    17. comments83820 on

I’m fine with this. Visiting the EU is a privilege, not a right. Wealthy Russians should have to deal with the consequences of the government that enriches them.

    18. While I agree that this sounds like a good idea, aren’t the people fighting in Ukraine often forcefully drafted so they didn’t have a choice (most Vietnam vets come to mind) ? How does this affect defectors ?

    20. Let the US have the war veterans visits, they have been promoting Russia since taking office, and have ceased all sanctions against them. It’s a great match, ignorant MAGA and Russian Empire wanna bees.

    21. Bad_Idea_Hat on

Easy fix; if you’re holding a russian passport, it should be considered a fake, as russia is no longer a real country. Let people from Pietari get Finnish passports, or people from Hǎishēnwǎi get Chinese passports.

    22. wordswillneverhurtme on

That’s like bare minimum. We shouldn’t allow any collaborators either. And make visas for russians like 10x pricier. Any russian coming here is already richer than most. They can afford our luxury.

    23. TheFennecFx on

Good start. Now replace“war veteran” with citizens and it is going to be perfect.

    24. PleaseBePatient99 on

Just ban ALL Russians. Stop ALL trade with them and blockade all Russian ships and planes wanting to go through EU territory.
