The highly unusual absence from the normally-very public despot has sparked fears over his health just days after it was also revealed that a possible coup plot was emerging.

>Newly released images from his last appearance 10 days ago show the Russian leader attending a solemn Orthodox church service during Easter, which was the last time he was seen outside of the Kremlin. He has held meetings inside his office, but the outside world appears to be a no-go for the aging leader right now.

>The photographs capture Putin standing inside a grand, ornately decorated cathedral, gripping a lit red candle. Dressed in a dark suit paired with a crimson tie, the President appeared somewhat subdued as he participated in the religious ceremony.

>He is pictured standing alongside Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, with both men looking closely at the proceedings against a vibrant backdrop of religious frescoes and golden ecclesiastical fixtures. At various points in the service, Putin is seen crossing himself, adjusting his collar, and conversing quietly with the mayor.

>While the Kremlin has historically dismissed any suggestions of Putin suffering from ill health as entirely baseless, his recent disappearance from daily television broadcasts and scheduled meetings did little to quell the mounting international anxiety.

>Over the weekend, rumours of the coup emerged, as it was claimed that the Kremlin’s senior elite are allegedly orchestrating a plan to remove him, as friction within Moscow’s security apparatus escalates to breaking point.

>Igor Eidman, a prominent Putin critic, contends that for the first time in decades, the power dynamic is beginning to turn against the long-standing Russian leader, and that the interests of his inner circle „fundamentally do not align the dictator“.
