Who cares? They don’t live in Iran. They live in Canada. They are Canadians now. Iran is as foreign a government to them as to everybody else.

  2. Are they planning to join a guerilla movement to overthrow the Islamic regime? If not, the value of this poll is questionable.

Already seeing people play interference for a theocracy that is brutal to women right here in the comments. I wonder why that would be.

And? Then they should move to Iran and fight for regime change. It’s not our problem to get sucked into a war for Israel or Iran.

  5. Move to Iran and protest yourself then

It’s much easier to be for the destruction of a country you don’t live in

Iranian Canadian is not representative of the people inside the country, they belong to the highest socioeconomic class as come to Canada requires a certain level of capital and education and it is not something that above 90% of the population can afford.

I don’t care about regime change for Iran as it’s not my business. But just saying, the samples in the survey are drawn from Iranians in Canada. This is called selection bias in statistics. Basically it means that what Iranians in Canada think does not represent what Iranians in Iran (or any other Iranians) think.

  8. It’s never our problem cause love it or hate it our neighbour in the south kind of takes care of world issues. Now we can pretend world issues are above us, and yes we should definitely take care of our own country first, but we can at least support the downfall of blood drentched dictatorship.

The majority of the people this article is referring to are holding « Thank you Trump » placards and US/Israel flags in Canada streets and calling for replacement of the current regime with a monarchy with the son of the previous king/ dictator as the head of the state. It is just laughable.

You’d have a hard time finding a single person who wouldn’t support a change to a secular, democratic Iran. The only reason this is posted though is because two countries that have no interest in a progressive change of regime are waging a war on Iran for their own geostrategic gain. Is Libya the model for this regime change?

  11. Iranians are great people. Hope Iran is liberated from the disgusting Islamic regime.

Bring the support to the streets in Tehran if you truly mean it because otherwise the regime will not let up they are not going anywhere. Seize all government buildings in Tehran including the Majles and Justice Department.

I guess there’s a distinction between wanting regime change to the pre-shah government of Mossadegh (which the US and the UK toppled on behalf of their oil interests) and wishing for the return of the US-puppet shah who murdered thousands with his secret police.

Especially when the current calls for regime change seem to involve the US and Israel threatening to literally genocide Iran into non-existence.

  14. I think you can both have unanimous agreement that Iran should change its government, and also a majority in agreement that they shouldn’t be being bombed.

All the sensible people were in favour of the JCPOA, but there is an unwritten but overwhelmingly obvious rule that we’re not allowed to have nice things.

Of course they would support regime change, there’s a reason they left Iran in the first place. That doesn’t mean we should get involved in Trump’s war of choice

    No shit.

It’s the same thing the virtue it Laing morons on the left (whom I find embarrassing af as a lefty myself) do all the time. They erase the actual group to replace them with some opaque victim of their own design and feed their bigoted, white saviour nonsense.

It’s disgusting and all about feeding their own egos.

I assume depending on the community orgs that they passed the survey around we could end up with a selection bias of anti-regime supporters and pro intervention individuals. The diaspora that probably opposes it can also be involved in other community groups.

  18. Any change to the regime must come from internally and cannot be done with US military assets. The US has a bad enough history with Iran and American/Israeli military strikes are only hardening internal Iranian support for the government.

Regime change? Yes. But the west keep their hands off.

  19. Iranians outside Iran are irrelevant, at least that’s how the regime sees them. The one guy that they were hoping would do something failed them so until another expat is up for the job, nothing is gonna change.

Canada watched with approval as UK and USA overthrew Iranian democracy and installed a dictator.

  21. Apprehensive-Air5353 on

Ah yes, regime change from father of the previous regime to the son of the father. What a change. Also, it’s not exactly a surprise anyone supports it when the government regularly killed thousands of protestors – a frequent repeating event. What people don’t understand and where the ignorance is, is that the countries aren’t doing this for the sake of Iran and its people, they’re doing it for money and greed. Unless of course someone is ignorant enough to believe the US and Israel are just the best of guys.

I’d also suggest you really think about how different Iran would be even with a different regime. They’re not exactly going to be a place that’s much better when it comes to freedoms, democracy, and oppression

  22. Every sane human wants regime change in Iran.

However, that’s not what Trump actually wants.

  23. Cultural-Scallion-59 on

Then go back and fight the regime. I’m really sick of fighting other countries’ wars.

  24. Trump is not interested in regime change. He’s interested in Iran’s oil and maybe a reduced nuclear threat.

  25. No_Friend4042 on

Then go back and fight for regime change… or at least promote such an idea to your friends and family in Iran.
