dripa needs to be scrapped, but this back and forth of scrapping and then not scrapping just makes eby a lameduck

I don’t think First Nations leadership are actually going to be happy with the result if they bring down the Eby and possibly the government, and open the door to the Tories.
This whole situation was badly bungled by Eby not doing the work of genuine consultation on suspending implementation of DRIPA, and prepping the ground in his caucus, with FN, and with the public.
Wind_Best_1440 on
First nations groups have no idea that everytime that Eby says he wants to table bills to try and fix the problem. And the First nations groups threaten to bring down government and protest.
That all they’re doing is getting the public at large against them.
Do these groups not understand that there is a reason why this is all being reported on? Eby says he wants to do X that his constituents want him to do and then it comes out that First Nations groups throw threats to stop it.
This is building more animosity from the general public against the First Nations groups because the general public think these groups are trying to steal their homes and land.
Every time they gloat about „Eby being forced to back down.“ They make themselves look like the bad guys in the public eyes.
BCC meanwhile on the sidelines letting First Nations groups act like this is the best free advertisements they could hope for.

What are the impacts on the mineral claim regime if DRIPA isnt suspended?
Is this something they can just delay on, or are they going to have to start changing the system to fit dripa?
For other BC laws, when will DRIPA start impacting them? Is it status quo until an indigenous groups launch a challenge and a court rules BCs current systems dont align to UNDRIP

What a fucking joke this province is. Repeal it and let’s find a real way to move forward.

First Nations groups are about to find out that Eby is their only hope, because the moment you start hitting boomers at their property values and Gen Xers they’ll swap to the party that will defend their property (e.g bc cons) and the BC cons are running candidates that want to completely get rid of land right acknowledgements, DRIPA, and wanting a clear end date to truth and reconciliation.
These First Nations are 5% of the population. It’s not just everyone else that is against these land grabs; it’s all the new immigrants that came here as well who oppose it. It’s deeply unpopular with voters; many on the NDP side as well.
If they won’t play ball with Eby they will absolutely lose come the next election the moment the BC cons elect a new leader.

Regardless of political spectrum to think this won’t be a massive election issue with majority on the side of repealing Dripa is insane.
This back and forth may cost them not only the election but make it a landslide.
People in BC do not want their personal property rights stripped and eroded.

This man is going to singlehandedly record the highest deficit and have the most investment capital run from this province under his tenure. What an absolute disgrace, flip flopping while his government is in active appeal of the Cowichan decision.

It’s clear he’s not acting like a leader. This constant back and forth at the slightest push back tells me he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
He’s too afraid to hurt first nations feelings even if it means massive investment leaves BC due to losing private property rights.

It’s really telling that a basic attempt to uphold the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous people gets such insane backlash. Some of you don’t want to live in a democracy, you want to live in an empire.
