People suck
Let’s be real here, Geese are in no way endangered, yes it’s shitty to destroy the eggs but people need to work, not to mention those birds shit everywhere.
UOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH CANADA GOOSES, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH ME, AND I SUGGEST YOU LET THAT ONE MARINATE!
Who’s gonna pick up all this goose shit at the park
Oh no.
Anyway…
They return to a spot in the middle of my salons parking lot every year. Least safe spot and lots of foot traffic They wreak havoc attacking people, crapping constantly and pecking at their own reflection in the windows so much that they managed to crack a window Now they have to hang Bristol board in the windows to stop the reflection. They cannot do anything until the chicks hatch, next year, they return to do it all over again. So frustrating for business owners and patrons, they are MEAN.
Just because something is not endangered does not give people the right to destroy wildlife. Geese are a protected wildlife species and you can’t just kill wildlife whenever you feel like it.
The last paragraph holds the key. If you entirely deter a pair of geese from nesting in a certain spot they’ll get the point and fuck off somewhere else after 3 days, and nest in a new place. They’ll lay eggs in locations with zero available resources and no chance of offspring survival if it feels good to them, and then keep on returning every year even if every chick dies instantly every time. Active prevention is the key, it’s better for both parties if the geese are prevented from nesting in bad spots right from the get-go. Destroying eggs is shitty and illegal, and it doesn’t reprogram them to nest elsewhere next year. Might as well let them run their course. There’s nothing said about the chicks in the article but I can’t imagine they’re surviving well once they hatch on a freaking downtown condo balcony. I don’t know the exact details but there’s a high chance the condo owner is acting selfishly here, they’re an „animal lover“ but they’re prioritizing their own entertainment over the well being of both the geese and her neighbours. If she actually cared about their well being she would deter them from nesting there so they could move on and look for a better spot to raise their chicks and not attack people.
