  1. Its insane. Entry level jobs have application queue and thats only if youre lucky enough to have a real job listing. LMIA scams are at an all time high and the TFW program needs to be shut down. If your business model requires slavery in order to succeed you need a different business model.

  2. There’s still lots of tree planting, fly-in-fly-out camp jobs, berry picking, seasonal serving/housekeeping at lodges and outfitters, hosts/hostesses, patio servers, festival vendor jobs, etc.

All of these are hiring right now. Well, tree planting is a bit late to get hired now and seasonal job starts vary a lot by region, but I’m seeing lots of jobs opening and getting lots of interviews for different stuff right now.

Instead of running these doom and gloom stories, they could be educating people on how many places are hiring that people may not think about.

Impossible. There is a labour shortage! Nobody can find somebody to manage a Tim Hortons for even $45 an hour!

  4. Manitoba minister of immigration thinks the solution is MORE TFWs. This country is insane.

The LPC was willing to spend almost a billion dollars on this issue in 2020, so I’m sure it’s still a priority.

The job market is bad but they bring in a bunch of immigrants to fill the gap. It makes total sense right?

  7. In 2010 right after the recession I found it hard too. I got an interview for a place selling predstory car loans. I settled for a call centre, it was slim pickings.

  8. When I see a job filled by a TFW when we have students looking for work that they are totally qualified to do I get upset. The amount of TFW’S in the hospitality industry is out of control, these were jobs we did as high school and university/college students and were happy to get. Looked good in resume when moving up the ladder as we graduated

The ol‘ half decade perfect storm. Totally not systemic issues and is all „per chance“

  10. I’m hoping to open a small business in Alberta within the next couple months if all goes well. There are a decent amount of teenagers at the church I go to and I have every intention of hiring teenagers for jobs. Not just summer jobs but part time during the school year.

Youth employment is tragically low. I worked at A&W as a teenager and made enough to pay for a trip to Europe in HS as well as pay for some other hobbies of mine. It’s next to impossible to find teenagers working at fast food places (which used to be a job haven for them) as they’ve all been taken over by TFWs. It’s a travesty.

Really hope I’m able to open soonish and help out even in a small way if I can!

  11. You don’t get to say Perfect Storm. Fuck you. This wasn’t a series of random, unpredicable events that culminated in the shit volcano which is our job market.

    Get. MAD.

I mean I’m 42 and been out of work 3 years now. So I’m hoping these kids find work, I gave up on myself a while ago.

We could stop being the world’s doormat but that would mean politicians actually have to do things
