Even discounting America, NATO includes Britain, Turkey, Canada, Norway, Montenegro. Albania and Macedonia.
Switching NATO out for the EU excludes those nations in exchange for Austria, Ireland and Malta three neutral nations who wouldn’t commit to defending eastern Europe even if their armed forces weren’t tiny and underfunded.
3rd Holy Roman Empire in the making.
It’s never going to happen.
EU already has an alliance. It’s part of the contract. The proposal is a shared army. Right now it’s as hoc, like EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
