His stock portfolio is like over 90% in the US.
That’s a pretty strong statement. Curious what specific actions he’s referring to.
The next democratic administration needs to perpetually remind the Canadians of their betrayal.
Carney just dunked on Trump
Good luck, Canada! 🇨🇦
His analysis isn’t wrong. The US has become a strange, hostile, and unreliable neighbor.
Having any kind of reliance on that neighbor is a point of weakness.
The Canadians can’t really put any trust in our country now.
All talk no action.
It’s amusing how America first has been taken to mean America only. It’s like living in an apartment building and then to destroy the plumbing to piss off the neighbors. Like yeah, it might be funny for a minute or two but pretty soon, there’s shit everywhere
Sounds like the US will need to keep a closer eye on Canada to make sure they don’t cozy up to any enemy nations.
I thought it a very good speech. Importantly, it acknowledges the path forward is timely, and will have failures as well as successes.
An important point I hope many recognize: when in a period of wild commodity fluctuations the balance of trade measured in dollars and Canada’s movement to expand other markets is going to be overshadowed by the increase in revenue obtained from Canada’s petroleum sales to America.
It is a good lesson on why focusing solely the percentage figure to a particular nation can be misleading.
Before the current oil shock Canada was on a path in both trade growth elsewhere and a reduction in the portion of it’s trade to America.
But at the moment that is out the window. Although our volume of exports elsewhere generally continues to increase.
The Canadian government has a great trade portal for anyone to explore statistics:
and here to view the monthly statistics, which are published to end of February when I write this comment:
[https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1210001101&cubeTimeFrame.startMonth=01&cubeTimeFrame.startYear=2025&cubeTimeFrame.endMonth=02&cubeTimeFrame.endYear=2026&referencePeriods=20250101%2C20260201](https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1210001101&cubeTimeFrame.startMonth=01&cubeTimeFrame.startYear=2025&cubeTimeFrame.endMonth=02&cubeTimeFrame.endYear=2026&referencePeriods=20250101%2C20260201)
I anticipate the March figures are going to reflect Export increases to America and China mainly due to changes in petroleum pricing. The balances are going to tip towards America but a positive for the Canadian government is increase in oil export tax revenue.
TBH Canada needs to rush out a nuclear deterrent the second the democrats get in.
Saying it like it is!
How do you explain to someone who lives in poor rural America that the rest of the world hates your voting choice and this makes America weaker?
US is sh!thole country nowadays. We don’t want to have anything to do with it. The less interaction, reliance, cooperation etc the better. Imagine you have an abusive, threatening, drunk and drugged up neighbour or relative that was once close to you. Well to bad, you won’t want anything to with them. That’s what’s happening with our neighbour at the south. Maybe we don’t want any agreement with them CUSMA or any kind. Canada was a great country before free trade. Will be ok without one too.
This Carney guy is very smart and foresighted leader. Jealous of Canadians to elect such a man of calibre as their Prime Minister
There are two reasons Canada is wealthy. 1) our natural resources (that we do not want extract for environmental reasons). And 2) our privileged relationship with the largest economy in the world.
If we are losing 2 we need 1.
The USA will consume their country in a heartbeat if they even hint at being a threat, that’s how the USA operates and always has operated
This is the definition of fair weather fan. When your friends only like you as long as you let them take advantage of you. And when Iran becomes a free civilisation. Canada will take full advantage acting like they brought it about.
Nice apologies would be great, for the beginnig
It’s amazing how we sabotaged a perfectly normal and beneficial alliance with a neighbor in a few months for literally no reason
