I’ve been confused about this the entire administration. Negotiating with foreign countries is the responsibility of the State Department. Where is Lil Marco, and what is he doing if not his job?

    2. I mean… after his visit, the Pope died, Orbán lost the election, and the first negotiations already failed. And now Trump sidelines him. What a streak.

    3. and another one goes under the bus – but unlike Hegseth – Patel – Noem – Bondi etc. – Vance is an elected official and cannot be fired – but at this point he’s got about as much chance of getting elected in his own right as Gerald R Ford had ..

1 Vance is a whatever you want donut order. He has no charm.

2 Anyone with bibi/trump looming over their shoulder would probably fail at negotiating

3 The JCPOA originally took 20 months to make

4 trump prob wants vance close to trump bc he’s prob worried about vance using the 25th to remove him

    5. There is no way Iran will take this negotiations seriously… they already really don’t trust Jared and Witkoff, doubt they would even attend this meeting

JD Vance is the person in class who aces all the tests where all that’s required is memorizing facts, but when it’s time to break into groups and problem solve with critical thinking, he shrinks into the background and has little to say.

He’s an overachiever, a fast riser, a title accumulator. That’s where it ends. He’s not a leader, he’s got negative charisma, he’s not a talented political operator, and he’s shown no capability to *get things done* since he’s emerged as a political figure. He’s a tryhard, a poser, and an empty suit. His top attributes are being an asshole on social media, slickly changing his (public) positions to ladder climb, and keeping his sugar daddy (Thiel) interested enough to keep writing checks.

I’m sure someone will call the rapist and he will change course

    8. I have heard the theory that the plan is for Vance to take over from Trump at some point. Probably after the midterms. Trump sidelining Vance is a sign that this is just not going to happen. Trump is a malignant narcissist who is going to try to cling to power until the day he dies. I just don’t see Trump quietly ceding power. Especially to someone Trump views as a flunky like Vance.

For once I can’t blame him. Would YOU want to talk to JD? I wouldn’t.

JD is disappointed he got stuck with a bench, not a nice soft and yielding couch. Benches leave splinters in awkward places.

    11. Middle-Mix-7711 on

Vance got benched because last time he went he left a sticky mess on all the couches. They are still cleaning those couches and requested he not return.

    12. BrilliantForeign8899 on

That’s weird. Nytimes says JD Vance is leading the talks again. BC it went so well last time

Donald Trump is an awful negotiator, the only thing he knows how to do is threaten… which is why it’s hilarious that JD Vance is somehow *worse*.

As soon as JD Vance walks into a room everyone becomes inexplicably pissed off.

    14. I hope JD is at least turned on by all the humiliation because I have no clue what else he’s gotten out of his vice presidency.

Trying hard to be objective here, this is the first 1/4 way intelligent move Trump has made in this debacle. As others have stated, everything Vance touches just turns to shit. I was wondering, from the beginning why Rubio hasn’t been the negotiator, but I suppose Trump thinks Marco will give up too much as he’s an actual negotiator.

Now out of this fantasy thinking, this cluster f is becoming a bigger cluster f by the day. We now get to see the new and amazing ways the new clown will screw it up.

    16. writeinfreedom on

It may not matter, but saying „Trump benches Vance“ is an interpretation based on the consistent theme that everything in Trump’s world is his own doing. Could actually be that Vance told him he is sitting it out.

I believe people close to Trump are realizing his days are numbered, given how little control he has and how little of international support he still has.

      Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, Noem…etc.

Maybe the Iranians told them not to send JD again.

All we can say for sure is he is reportedly not going.

If the White House Press Corps was more than a distribution service for the Oval Office’s banal statements, maybe we’d know more.

    17. He’s a guy Trump would have verbally humiliated if they were in primaries against each other in 2024

      > “We’re offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran. NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!”

They call him a master negotiator. You have to be braindead to actually believe that.

    19. AndreLeGeant88 on

Anything with Witkoff and Kushner is just a financial shakedown. They think their hot shit because they’ve made billions being a conduit for MBS and the KSA

    20. MentalDisintegrat1on on

I know he already likes couches a little too much is he going to be ok around that bench?

    21. Glad-Process-3268 on

Trump 45 is basically negotiating with Trump 47 policies. At this point, if Trump’s got a thrid of the JCPOA agreements restored then the country would be relieved.

    22. CivilWay1444 on

You would have been better served couching him. He’s not qualified for anything.

    23. Helpful tip: when the headline is great and makes you want to party it’s probably Daily Beast fucking garbage clickbait.

    24. SirRichardLove on

Shouldn’t the Secretary of State be the person who is doing these negotiations? I’m really confused.

    25. Extra-Ad5925 on

But he’s still probably sending Witkoff and Kushner because they’re so fucking effective

    26. pennylanebarbershop on

Vance is out of the running. Rubio will get the 2028 nomination.

    27. SupersonicJaymz on

Humiliating, yes, but for whom? Vance, who failed, or Trump, who put Vance in place despite the fact that Vance fails at pretty well everything he does?

      I say both.
