Not to be crass, but am I supposed to believe Hamas previously treated women in Gaza well?

is it a systemic and strategic endeavor or is it just people doing awful things, like always, in times of hardship? who creates and sustains such awful environment on the other hand….

It is not surprising, considering the atrocities they committed against Israeli military personnel and women

Well i guess the narrative is that you can liberate these widows who already lost their husbands and kids by bombing them further? Crazy.

This is the unfortunate reality of most women when there is true societal collapse, in every society, anywhere on the globe, at any point in history. Sexual violence against women with protection or society will always happen because most men are pieces of shit. People are blaming „hamas“ as if sexual exploitation is something unique here, and not a horrific condition that develops anytime there is extreme poverty and chaos

They have been doing this for a long time, people are just now paying attention.

This is for ages. When i was included in humanitarian aid, worked with a Palestinian group which operated (very graciously and cleanly!). The manager shared with me that women would be surprised they’re allowed to receive aid without having to offer sex in exchange. Soon, he learned it was happening bc that was the cultural norm with some of the … “religious” … humanitarian groups.

I mean is this something new? They have 4 child per women ON AVERAGE. It was 7 in the early 2000s. That number alone should tell you all you need to know about women rights as not society that see women has even close to independent have such an high birthrate. These are some late 1800s nunber and you will make me beleive its what women truly want.

      > A man identifying himself as a member of Hamas’ military wing confirmed that such exploitation also targets widows. He said he reported that operatives were abusing “wives of martyrs” in a tent in the Qarabli area, but was instructed to remain silent. “We told them it was an insult to our honor and dignity,” he said, adding that he tore down the tent in anger.

This is how you identify that this isnt really a hamas thing but just the general result after societal collapse. These better men exist even within hamas itself but laws and adherence to Islam become much harder to enforce with so many dead, displaced and with everyone hyperfocused on the most basic of needs. Really is quite sad for the women and kids especially but even the men too. My prayers are with them.
