> The Official Opposition Conservatives are denouncing the federal government’s plans to give Liberal MPs control of House of Commons committees now that they have a majority.
What’s the point of having a majority if, among other things, you don’t have control of committees?
I guess 2011 was a long time ago and the CPC forget what a majority government entails lol

Now is not the right time to complain about this. They should wait until there’s a scandal and the committee with oversight disgracefully shuts down attempts at an investigation. Until then, it looks like sour grapes.

The CPC used the minority parliament to obstruct passage of bills like the strong border bill and bail and sentencing reform bill and to create news and social media narratives rather than acting in good faith, proposing amendments etc….
“Make no mistake, this is a minority Parliament, and in that scenario, the opposition parties have the ability to hold up government legislation. Responsible opposition parties do that in a responsible way to offer alternatives and present reasoned arguments,” he said.
“But for the last three months, the Conservatives have adopted and executed a clear political strategy that is self serving and selfish. Their partisan strategy is simple, ‘obstruct, obstruct, obstruct, obstruct’ debates and votes in the House of Commons, and play silly games in committees to block the advancement of government legislation.”
“An internal Conservative party strategy document viewed by the Star shows how the party uses parliamentary committee meetings to maximize social media opportunities ….
“A “torture chamber” for the government.
“Social media content generators.”
A way to “delay” and “derail” the government’s agenda and priorities.
That’s a window into how the federal Conservatives view parliamentary committees, according to internal presentation slides obtained by the Star that offer a rare look inside party strategy.
“It’s all about using (committee) material and using the work of Parliament for entirely partisan purposes. So it just goes to show we’re at a point now where — it’s kind of sad to say this, especially during an election period — it’s all about winning. It’s all about the parties,” said Lori Turnbull, a political science professor at Dalhousie University.
Conservatives should be deeply disappointed that Poilievre cannot find someone better than Andrew Sheer to keep trotting out. He does no favours to anyone in the party.

Hilarious, under Harper they’d vote to move in-camera and do shit behind closed doors so there would be no record.

Conservatives can just go back to pure obstruction, like thru made a how to book to do. They bragged about how useless they would made committees.
