How about number of continents per country?

    Russia: 2

    Turkey: 2

    Egypt: 2?

    Panama: 2?

    Everybody else: 0-1

There are technically 14 countries in South America

    Apart from these 12:

Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, and Guyana

There are France and the UK with the remnants of colonialism (French Guiana and Falklands)

Not to enter in the discussion of if Trinidad and Tobago, which the northernmost part is to the south to the northernmost part of Colombia/Venezuela is part of South America, and the remnants of Dutch colonialism Aruba and Curaçao too.

Norte America y Sudamerica son ¡SUBCONTINENTES, NO CONTINENTES SEPARADOS!

North America is really just 5, if you dont count central America and the Caribbean…

Last time I checked the continents were Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australasia

FYI, Oceania is a region, not a continent 🙂
Im not sure if this is what you meant, by your comment on your post, which mentions region because your title and the map itself states ‚continent‘ which I read to mean that you’re saying Oceania is the contitent and it has 14 countries in it.
So sorry, if I’ve misunderstood, please disregard the rest of my comment if that’s the case, but just incase I have read it correctly:

The Australian Continent makes up part of Oceania, but not all of Oceania is part of the Australian Continent.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_(continent)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania

I grew up (in Australia) learning that Australia is the only continent that is also a single country. Its often refered to as an island continent, because if it.

Oceania is a region (which are grouped together by things like cultural, social sometimes political similarites etc. It’s more about the people, than the land itself), whereas a contient is defined by its landmass and geology.

We’re one land mass with our own distinct tectonic plates. New Zealand, so close to us, is part of a microcontinent, Zealandia, and is seperate to the Australian continent. Yet we are part of the same region.

For example, the Australian contienent, and the Zealandia microcontinent (as well as other areas) are part of the subregion, Australasia.

Australasia in turn (as well as other areas) are part of the Oceania region 🙂

Thanks for listening to my TED Talk 😅

  7. This adds up to 197 countries so probably slightly weird definitions being used here. According to the United Nations there are 193 member states and 2 non-member observer states.

Europe and Asia are geographically part of one single continent called Eurasia

  9. Why is Europe a continent, it seems so arbitrary, by this logic why isn’t North Africa, the Arabian peninsula and South Asia also continents.

A quick back-of-the-envelope calculation shows that Europe comes first in the number of countries per sq km.

There’s always discussion about which continent model is correct, but never any discussion about how there’s only one ocean rather than five
