  1. Why are way over 50% of countries represented in a colour which doesn’t even exist on the legend?

  2. Afghanistan has compulsory niqab (albeit most of women seems to circumvent it wearing a covid mask).

The Burqa and Niqab were banned in Iraq during the war with Isis especially Nineveh governorate

Went to Bosnia in ’24, as soon as we left the airport in Sarajevo i noticed a lot of people from the middle east which was surprising and the middle eastern women all wore burqas.

  5. As usual, these maps fail to specify for many of these countries it’s just public safety laws that say that you can’t go around with your head covered, be it an helmet or „islamic dress“

If hijab is accounted for, then france is not only niqab and burqa banned in public space but also hijab banned in public institutions. It’s technically all religious symbols but hijab gets the most attention nowadays, it’s easier to conceal a cross pendant than to conceal a hijab.

As a Progressive Muslim, Burqa and Niqabs are cultural not islamic. In fact, there is no where in the Quran that mention either of em. Hijab on the other hand is islamic but most muslim women don’t wear hijabs just like most christian women are not nuns and don’t wear head covering.

Yes, Burqa and Niqabs are oppressive in nature since they can be quite restrictive but unfortunately, I have met some muslim women who do wear those by choice coz its everyone is different. Only pariah states like afghanistan and iran enforce head covering just 2 muslim states out of idk 57ish muslim majority states and even some islamic states ruled by shaira don’t impose hijab on women such as Pakistan. Afghanistan is overtaken by radical talibans who imposed this on women there and in iran, the ayatollahs aren’t elected official. This law of imposing head covering is widely unpopular among Iranian and Afghan muslims and the rest of the muslim world.

A lot of Muslim countries who came under communist rule like central asian states had hijab bans even turkeye had one but it was unbanned later on after protest.

I live in Turkey and niqab/burqa are not banned in Turkey. There are very few women who wear niqab, but it is definitely not banned and I sometimes see women who wear niqab

Afghanistan requires burqa. I thought Saudi requires hijab, but maybe MBS loosened this?

  10. Its fucking insane that us and afghanistan are the only two countries in the world with this stupid ass law

Kazakhstan banned fully covering the face. It’s just not specific for religious dresses

In the Netherlands all face covering is banned, not only religious ones.

It should be banned all around the world. That weird fascination of oppressing women is just sick as f.

  14. In Germany it’s not that these specific dresses are banned – covering your face in public is *in general* banned (except for covid masks and such), dating back to the protest waves and riots of the 60s and 70s (basically, it was to prevent masked people from starting fights without legal repercussions, and giving police a legal reason to stop someone masked in a crowd).

There’s no ban on burqa or niqab in Sweden. Some workplaces has saftey regulations on anything that can get stuck, which also include long, loose hair and necklaces.

  16. Burqa and niqab are not banned in Turkey, but if you ask me, I’d say it should be.

  17. Kosovo should be green as well. Public schools (Primary and secondary) don’t allow head coverings and the supreme court upheld this rule last year.

Only in university (higher education) is it allowed since the women are mature legally and can decide by themselves.

  18. As a Muslim dude, fuck the burqa and niqab, and fuck anyone who forces people to wear anything.
