Nach einem Blick auf die Volkszählung hat mein Partner herausgefunden, dass sein Großvater, von dem er immer geglaubt hatte, er stamme aus Mullingar, tatsächlich in Cork geboren war und im Alter von 18 Jahren im Jahr 1926 mit seiner Familie in Longford lebte.

    Das Problem ist, dass wir nicht erkennen können, wo in Cork er geboren wurde.

    Kann das überhaupt jemand entziffern?

      It looks like Gougane Barra with the first letter being a G as far as I can make out. Its a guess though.

      Almost looks like Queenstown but that was renamed to Cobh in the early 20s.

    3. Looks like Queenstown, even though the name changed to Cobh before 1926. I would guess they were Protestant people and were still using the British name maybe?

    4. It does start to look like Queenstown on rows 5 and 6 at least, even if the first letter looks like a G.

      So I’m going to guess Cobh.

      If you can work out his year of birth you can search for him on Irishgenealogy.ie and it’ll tell you where he was born there.

      To me that really looks like Gneevguilla but sure that’s in Kerry

      Right so, going by experience from using the the previous census for family research over the years, there should be another link at the btm of the page on line. This link should show the same details in block letters.

      Next time your on the census check for the links under that copy.
