      china would love the telemetry data on US warplanes they could get by doing this. I don’t see trumps letter doing much in this case.

      I know it’s trivial, but it’s annoying that CBS couldn’t be bothered to proofread their headline. They accurately describe the radar as ‘advanced’ in the main text.

      That’s just free signals intelligence for the US‘ F-35s and Wild Weasels. The US is the king of SEAD + DEAD, their entire air doctrine is centered around finding and destroying strategic integration air defense assets, including multi-billion dollar radar systems.

      If the Iran war has taught us anything, it’s that strategic, theater-level air defense systems that are ultra capable and ultra expensive sound super shiny and super awesome on paper, but in reality, they’re easy pickings and the first things to go in a war. Everyone knows where they are, and they stand out as easy prey for stand-off weapons like cruise missiles and drone swarms, and once they go down, because you had a few very expensive rare assets covering an entire theater, the entire theater loses coverage.

      It’s Iran’s non-integrated, short range and ad hoc point defense systems (even distributed and low profile MANPADS) that have been holding US aircraft at risk when they come down low and slow for ground attacks. Because they’re more numerous, smaller and lower profile and easier to distribute and hide and they don’t require integration across multiple assets which means multiple points of failure that grind the entire air defense apparatus to a halt.

      then Russia got tangled in Afghanistan and it became their Vietnam. It was a mess.

      then US got tangled in Afghanistan and later Iraq for some reason. It became their Vietnam Part 2. It was a very big mess.

      then Russia got tangled in Ukraine. They are bleeding out.

      then US got tangled in Iran. They are starting to bleed out. This will be US’s Ukraine

      If China century happens it’s because two super powers are too high on their own hubris.

      Yeah, this ones are far less worrying than the MANPADS.
      Chinese radar systems do not work when it comes to detecting most American aircraft. Especially not the F-22 OR F-35
      We know this from Venezuela and even Iran itself because it already had a few.

      It’s difficult not to see the similarities between the conflicts in Ukraine and Iran

      A country with a powerful military attacks a country that is seen as weaker that gets help from another country with a powerful military

      In both instances it’s clear that if those weaker countries had nuclear weapons the conflicts would never have happened
