Laut Stanford Report hat China Amerikas Vorsprung in der KI „fast zunichte gemacht“ – und der Zustrom von Technologieexperten, die in die USA ziehen, verlangsamt sich auf ein Rinnsal

There is no “lead in AI” except “having a lot of money and access to hardware.”

Trump is fucking all of the people in the US up for decades.

I’m no fan of the way AI is going at all, but I’d rather not fall behind regardless.

The big winner in the Iran war has been China. Oh ya, and the epstein class that’s avoiding any and all prosecution for their decades of heinous activities.

Culturally I hear China has a very different attitude toward AI. Huge chunk of the population in the US hates AI. They don’t have the same feeling there

Why would an expert in anything move to this Christian Nationalist shithole? We’re rocket sledding towards being a husk of a nation.

    5. I work in national higher education.

International students that historically attend American university for STEM, graduate, got jobs, and stayed are arriving in shockingly fewer numbers. American students aren’t replacing them- professors are raising red flags that American Gen Z can barely read at a high school level and no one is paying attention.

How about the productions and flow of fake experts? Who are considered experts?

    7. AI doesn’t have as much of negative public sentiment in China like it does in the United States.

Trump’s going to say “it’s unfair competition from Cheyinah” that they’re not shredding their basic research funding or canceling visas and deporting foreign born scientists to prisons in El Salvadore.

Who cares when the only thing they’re gonna use it for is military drones and surveillance on their own citizens???

    10. The US was never going to win the AI war. It is impossible for many reasons:
      – throwing money at the problem is unsustainable
      – Chinese labs keep releasing open-weight models and they are at worst just few months behind from the bleeding edge models
      – China seems to always be on the forefront of making AI cost effective. Google finally did some actually important job on this and released it, but China definitely has the edge
      – The US will not beat China in a freaking math and infrastructure problem. Both are inherently strengths of China that they build decades towards. It doesn’t happen overnight
      – China has been, and will continue to be, ahead of the US in energy infrastructure. They are actively working towards self reliance in energy because they know, and now see clearer than ever, that they can’t really on fossil fuel imports

Can’t imagine why a country „lead“ by it’s biggest idiot is losing it’s edge

    12. Everyone blames a single guy but the whole political environment has been toxic for years

    13. I stopped taking these articles seriously. We constantly see this stuff where China ahead in that field and this field for the past 10 years and they end up not being true. Doomposting is the new clickbait.

If they want that shit they’re welcome to it. We’ll even send them our executives, just let us smoosh them all into a box and ship them over.

    15. The winner of AI will be the country that can produce the most amount of cheap electricity. There is no reason China won’t beat everyone in this race.

    16. don’t worry, the brain drain will go the other way soon if it keeps up. I know i’ll be looking at leaving when I finish my masters

I find it hilarious that there is such a thing as „knowledge distillation“ where they can just harvest from the frontier models to train their own.

    18. I don’t know what people are worried about, if China reaches AGI, the first thing the US is gonna do is ban every Chinese AI and every company or product using it. There are no such things as free trade or free competition.

    19. Why should anyone come to the US to help with AI when all of the AI CEOs want to put the country’s workers out of a job?

    20. TopTippityTop on

Strongly disagree on the AI point. Their models are distilled versions of the top models.

This sub is literally nothing but anti-US, pro China, dooming anti-tech garbage.

Where the hell are the posts championing progress, innovation, something interesting and positive?

While China invested in its sciences and education, funding cutting edge research and development focused on electric cars, batteries, drones, robotics, renewable and nuclear energy and now AI. Invested trillions into its infrastructure and building up massive manufacturing capacity. Meanwhile America has been cutting education, research, investments in r and d, all while wasting trillions on wars and the military industrial complex, trillions wasted on failing healthcare system, trillions over the decades on fossil fuels all while our politicians enrich themselves. Our infrastructure is crumbling, our kids cant read, our people are getting poorer by the day, and The only reason US was leading was by attracting foreign talent, now with our xenophobic Cristian nationalist corrupt government things are only going to get “great.”

    23. The tech elite got their guy into office, only for it to predictably backfire on them, because they don’t understand how to socialize or consider that other people will respond rationally to a hostile environment by not going there.
