Is IQ a genetic thing? If not, I might imagine that traditional values place emphasis on areas other than problem solving during development.

seems obvious low iq individuals are more suspect to misinformation and propaganda, which is spread in bigger numbers by conservative idealist than progressives.
In America the Conservatives pick on „Coastal Elites.“ What have they done so wrong? They’re largely intelligent, educated, AND open to new cultures and ways of life that are not their own.
That being educated and worldly is used as an insult by Conservatives is actually a self-indictment, a self-own, that supports this study massively.
And we don’t even have to get started on how people with different politics look at modern medicine. We have measles killing children in America, we have kids getting polio, freaking extinct-ass polio, because of….reasons. And those reasons are never intelligent.
So, in the late 80’s, they measured the intelligence of a bunch of students then followed up with a bunch of them 35 years later. And, they found that the adults who measured as „highly intelligent“ students in the 80’s now tend to be more liberal than those who measured as average in the 80’s.
The unjustified conclusion from all of this is that they are more liberal BECAUSE they are more intelligent. It could be, however, that intelligent conservative adults just don’t like answering surveys. Or it could be that those people are more liberal because they went to universities and were indoctrinated. Or it could be that the average people were the ones who were indoctrinated and, as a result, are more conservative.
BUT, a lot of liberals are likely to glom onto those and reach the even less justified conclusion „see! we’re smarter.“
Hence the reason conservatives are trying to defund, dismantle, and destroy education in America. They want to grow a future voter base.

It might be difficult to talk about this study. Especially if you’re a liberal man. The assumption could be made right off the bat that one is simply looking to stroke their own ego and not actually think rationally about the study’s results.
That being said I’m curious about the women’s results. The study authors found that the trend they saw in men was not replicable in women.
The most meaningful reaction to this for an educated person with liberal values is not to bask in self-congratulation, but rather to ask yourself why these people, being that they’re so stupid, keep beating you politically
I’d assume that like religion, the traditional values of conservative people actually limit their brain capacity. There was a study not too long ago that showed the brains of extreme religious groups show signs similar to brain damage with less activity.

The IQ stuff doesn’t shock me. The higher your education, the more likely to lean further left. And the higher the IQ, the more likely to get education.
This is probably why Clarence Thomas was angrily sputtering about “intellectuals” yesterday.
I think I’m an exception.
Conservatives don’t believe in teamwork or that lgbtq+people are human. They say give all the money to the rich so that money will just appear on the streets. They say the minimum wage should not afford necessities. They don’t believe education should be available to everyone. Yeah, none of that is a smart way to build a community.
