Someone correct me if I am wrong but presumably a large number of those injured and not killed are returning to the front? We are talking about ‚losses‘ not just ‚killed‘ here and even if they are eventually killed after returning, they would be counted in the following losses figure a second time despite being one person. Which is to say… losses would not yet exceed replacement.
