Seems fair. „I’m forgetful“ should not be an excuse.
What a world to live in, we cannot treat the same people who do honest mistakes as people who try to ride public transport without ever paying (who seems to be less punished, as they usually know all tricks in the book).
You are supposed to buy your own tickets or scan your items at checkout for „convenience“ and if you dare make any mistake will be harshly punished.
But if any of the big corporations make one „small mistake“ you will be fighting tooth and nail for them to correct it, and of course no equal compensation would ever be given.
