  1. This is exactly how the US was supporting Ukraine (during the Biden administration) in their struggle against Russia. How times have changed.

I think World War III started with Ukraine, and it’s just going to keep building and building

China is doing the same what Americans did in 1980s to Soviets in Afghanistan 😀

Trump is ignoring Russia’s significant aid to Iran, especially intelligence and drones.

  5. China wants to see their weapons in action, and what changes to make against American weaponry.

  6. Former ADA here. The good news is the Chinese MANPADS are not anywhere near as good as our Stinger missiles. The bad news is even crappy missiles get lucky sometimes. And the Chinese missiles are not crappy.

This makes Trump look so weak after he just said that there would be big problems if China does help Iran.

  8. Its a great test spot for their weapons. Just like so many companies/countries are doing with weapon systems in Ukraine.

This’ll be a problem. At the unclassified level let’s just say the Chinese MANPADs are verrrry good.

MANPADS are really only effective below 20K ft, so useful for targeting ground attack aircraft that are coming down low to conduct ISR and hunt for new enemy assets.

Sandboxx has a great [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_1LyUAOI4Q) on how the F-35 tanked a direct hit from what is likely a MANPADS (or else some non-integrated, short range, point defense system, as all of Iran’s strategic integrated air defense apparatus has been wiped out), and still kept flying and made it back to a friendly airstrip.

Basically F-35s are made to be multi-role, and part of that means doing dangerous ground attack missions, including flying lower and slower where their stealth advantage is greatly reduced in order to bait out and hunt for enemy assets you don’t already know about. And so it has to be tough and survivable.

The introduction of advanced MANPADS and other ad hoc point defense systems just means allied mission planners will need to be a lot more cautious, and aircraft will need to back off from the role of direct stand-in ground attack to stand-off range, using more cruise missiles and glide bombs and one-way attack drones.

Even with localized air superiority, stand-in range is still very dangerous, so stand-off is going to have to be the new norm.

If there is a Chinese product you need, I would get it now, because Trump will tariff Chinese goods 50% if they send anything to Iran.

So these are air defense systems that only work on helicopters basically as their max target height is 4km which would get anywhere near a jet.

We’ve mostly been using planes at this point so doubt this changes much of anything assuming it’s true.
