Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals have secured a majority government, winning all three of Monday’s by-elections and full control of the House of Commons.
Liberal candidate Danielle Martin won in University-Rosedale, while Liberal candidate Doly Begum won in Scarborough Southwest. Liberal Tatiana Auguste narrowly won in the Montreal-area riding of Terrebonne, returning as the area’s MP after the 2025 result was annulled by the Supreme Court of Canada.

Can we all just admit that Polievre needs to go?
The results for CPC are abysmal. The floor crossings? The letters sent to conservative MPs telling them to justify their existence.
Hideous “leadership.”

This was a really bad night for the CPC. They did bad in all three ridings.

Man this sub isn’t going to be happy about this. I’m indifferent, personally. It was not a surprising turn of events after the past year.

Canada lost tonight, and the Liberals won. I wonder how many times they have to fuck up to get voted out.

The amount of disgust people have for Carney on reddit is representative for how out of touch redditors are. Site becoming garbage.

Silver lining
If I’m not mistaken this means that Carney got 170 seats through proper elections and didn’t need floor crossing to get the majority

Oh boy here come all the American and Russian bots to tell us Canadians how bad this is!

PP already runs to Twitter to post that Carney didn’t get a “real” majority and this was a result of “backroom deals”. The maple MAGA version of “rigged”. 😂

They should have by-election in all the floor crossings districts. Doesn’t matter which party it was from. These MPs are literally being called traitors by their constituents and do not represent what the people voted for. The whole party system is kind of a joke anyways.

In Terrebonne the LPC and BQ candidates combined for 77% of the vote last year. In this by-election they combined for 95% of the vote.

The real victory tonight is the liberals defeating the bloc in Terrebonne. Major blow to the separatist movement, and I love it.

All I can hope is the NDP use this next 3 years to rebuild and come out swinging against the CPC

Can PP finally resign now?
I don’t vote right, but it scares me a lot that there wasn’t really any competition in these elections.
It‘s felt like we had a two party system for decades, now it feels like a one party system.
I’ve liked most of what Carney has done so far, but I don’t want to see any party making unilateral decisions.

I guess we’re on the train of „LPC does nothing and wins“.
There are times I do not like predicting correctly and this is one of those times. The only winners here is the LPC, NOT the Canadian people. Majorities (regardless of party) are very bad to have as it grants absolute power. Anyone who argues „maybe things will get done with a majority“ is short sighted as the things that get done will most likely not be for the benefit of the people.
Next, I predict the LPC will prorouge government to reset all the committees to gain a majority in all debates allowing the flow of overreaching policies (Mass surveillance specifically on social media posts, Digital ID, Firearms Bans, Money Printing, Censorship of the Press).
I expect the middle-class and lower to face much worse disparity with the LPC going forward with trickle down economics (via green grifts and greenwashing) which never works because of greed.
The only way out of this now will be for the populace to stop being complacent with the deteriorating standard of living and stop blaming Trump for everything (He was an accelerant of the countries deterioration, not the cause).

PP won’t last another four years. I guess the race is on to see who’ll be the conservative leader in 2029?

Carney hit his ceiling. It’s only downhill from there. Can’t wait for the liberals fortunes to take a turn for the worse from here.
