  1. Actually insane the turnaround from Trudeau to now this. I never would’ve believed if you told me a year and half ago this is how things would turn out.

Pretty remarkable given that a year and a half ago, the Liberals were polling 20+ points behind the Conservatives, and everyone basically accepted that Pierre Poilievre would be the next PM of Canada. Going from a projected landslide loss to winning a minority government April last year to gaining a majority government today, that’s a crazy turnaround for Carney. Hopefully he uses his majority to actually do some good in Canada.

This is what happens when Canada elects a moderate conservative and after a year, everyone realizes that he’s doing a great job in a nearly impossible situation.

A majority would not be in the cards were it not for the unprecedented efforts Carney and Co. put into to luring (bribing) MPs over to their side. This marks the first time in over 100 years a minority gov has bought a majority defying the will of the electorate.

First time in the history of Westminster democracy a minority has transitioned to a majority without a general election

It’s impressive the Conservatives picked the biggest loser of their last 3 nominees to keep on for some reason. Scheer was also a bit of a fuck but not as much as PP

Yesterday Hungary today Canada. Good news keeps piling. America its your turn in November.

  8. Carney is a true red Tory. Basically a conservative without the culture war bullshit Pierre Polievre thrives on.

Due to Trump’s repeated threats to invade Canada and his support for Canadian separatists, the LPC, despite being involved in economic scandals, has secured another election victory. Meanwhile, the Conservatives, aside from continually repeating Carney’s conspiracy theory about Chinese espionage, have handled their relationship with the Trump administration in a way that has been a complete public relations disaster.

Carneys given some good speeches, and the contrast makes them seem like fucking Shakespeare in comparison.
There haven’t been many world leaders actually calling out the idiot to the south.

I think seeing first hand what’s happening to a strong, powerful democratic country that votes based on populism rather than policy is a big fucking wake up call. For a lot of countries.

Jealous American over here. Coming soon I hope.
Edit: WTH ever happened with those loony Canadian trumpers with the trucking embargoes? Haven’t heard of them in ages.

  12. Razor-thin majority, but a majority.

I think this might embolden the opposition parties to be more obstructive, and the majority is thin enough that it would be easy for them to bring down the government and trigger an election on accident.

This really puts Poilievre in a tough spot, though. It isn’t just losing influence in parliament, it is watching a Prime Minister who is right-of-center (at least by Canadian standards) build a big tent, eat his lunch policy-wise, and pull multiple floor-crossers to the Liberal fold for dessert.

If Poilievre doesn’t land a win (or Carney makes a major mistake he can pounce on), the last of his political credibility will be in jeopardy.

With a majority, Pm Carney needs to slap down the fk Americans and their orange Jeebus from funding the rightwing clownvoy idiots /seperatists , who use platforms like Facebook algorithms to brainwash Albertans and Saskatchewan residents.

Trump is certainly helping the world, just not in the ways he thinks he is.

  15. Am I the only one that feels like Canadian politics don’t matter? It don’t matter whose PM, things just get worse, nothing gets addressed.

Just yesterday I’d said I’d thought the Liberals would (regretably) be one short of their majority. This is a welcome surprise. Massive congrats, Carney!s

  17. If Carney were to call an election soon I’m sure he could strengthen his majority, but there’s little to gain from that now. And there’ll probably be more defectors from the conservatives to the liberals too.

  18. Also important to note – with the war in Iran and all the geopolitical instability, Pollievre still refuses to get his security clearance. While I am not a fan of the way this majority happened, Pollievre is unfit to govern.

Well congratulations Liberals. You get what you want, again. Whatever happens, Canada gets exactly what it deserves.

I believe he’s done some serious good for Canada already. Were on track, or have already fulfilled our current NATO obligations and we’re still internationally recognized as a leader.

Sure there’s going to be some blunders but that happens on all sides

  21. People have talked about policy and ideology and optics, and how Poilievre’s slow pivot cost him a 20-point polling lead — but a critical factor not really talked about that led us to where we are today is his leadership style. Without the floorcrossers, the Liberals wouldn’t have their majority today. Poilievre’s controlling and high-pressure leadership style was cited to be a key factor in these floorcrossings. You know what they say: people don’t quit jobs, they quit their bosses.

This will displease Greta Thunberg and her fans, but Canada is going to produce and export more oil.

  23. ImCryingTearsOfBlood on

As a Canadian, we’re fucked. He’s been buying conservatives and making them cross and now he’s going to fuck Canada up even more 🤦‍♂️

  24. RudeTudeDude_ on

An unelected, undemocratic majority that could not be achieved from a general election 3 straight times.

God, wouldn’t it be great to have someone competent and decent to lead your country? Must be nice.
