The ‚public policy‘ or ‚public good‘ basis for legal decisions creeps me out every time I see it. A reminder that in certain cases the judges can just say ‚eh, I don’t like it, get fucked‘ without any particular justification beyond the current zeitgeist.

This changes with public opinion, which is shaped by billionaires and grifters. Anyone with any sense should be fearful of a government that does this to its citizens, especially since he was released without charge. He basically failed the vibe check. The truth is if Russia removed his citizenship status, he would automatically become British again as It’s illegal for the UK to make somebody stateless. As he has british ancestry with no links to any other states the UK government would have no choice other than to grant him citizenship status again.
