    1. Might as well ask Dave down the pub what he’s going to do, they’ve got about the same chance of getting into power

    2. PennyBunPudding on

I’d rather it was motorways than 20 zones. Surely the slower zones are the ones where it’s more important people aren’t speeding?

    3. illandancient on

All the traffic laws are written in blood. The UK’s roads are literally the safest on the planet, due to our culture of traffic laws.

Any regressive move on our traffic laws will lead to people dying. We can probably estimate the precise number of people who will be killed by changing this policy. I dunno, it might be ten people, it might be fifty, is that how many people Kemi Badenoch would be happy to see killed?

    4. Of all the stupid ideas that she has mentioned, this ranks somewhere in the middle.

    5. It really is a race to the bottom for the Scumservatives and Racistform party’s.

They really do lean in to the Hate dont they.

    6. psychopastry on

Is there any actual evidence she ever went to school or had any kind of education at all? I can’t fathom how someone winds up coming out with so many stupid ideas if they’ve actually managed to pass

    7. While this isn’t a good idea, it’s also true that blanket 20mph policies are dumb as well.

30mph should be the default speed limit for urban roads, with 20mph limits used (and enforced) on roads where there is high or vulnerable pedestrian traffic (eg high streets, outside schools etc), as well as on purely residential side streets. Main through roads which aren’t prone to high/vulnerable pedestrian traffic should be 30.

The only case where a blanket 20mph limit really makes sense is in Central London (ie within the congestion charge zone) and the centre of other big cities, but that’s only because basically every road there has lots of pedestrian traffic.

Good god. All she does is pick up on something that’s recently been in the news and says “I’m against this”. I don’t think she has any set manifesto pledges, it’s basically just vibes politics and soundbites.

      Useless.

    9. BlackGayJesus666 on

But not the fines, so it’s finally confirmed that this was never about safety for the tories, just about money.

    10. davus_maximus on

A Tory, campaigning to scrap punishment for offences? It’s like she looked at her own criminal party and wanted to make life easier for herself.

    11. MidgarDreaming on

As someone who watched a mother pushing a pram get mowed down by someone doing 40 in a 20 I think Kemi should get in the bin, speed kills and removing the already insufficient punishments is about as low as it gets.

    12. Street_Adagio_2125 on

This is an incredibly stupid idea. Either the speed limits are wrong in which case set them to 30 or they’re right in which case enforce them properly

    13. FornyHucker22 on

Some of those 20 mph roads are daft, some could safely be 40 let alone fining someone doing 25

    14. So the innit brush baseball cap wearers in financemobles are OK to do the 40-50 plus in housing estates now?

    15. With the world in such a state, the right have completely given up on proposing any solutions and literally just focus on the pet peeves of boomers in the hopes our ageing population will get them over the line.

    16. LazarusHimself on

Keeps scrapping the bottom of the barrel to try and stay relevant; how sad.

    17. supersonic-bionic on

Lol at this point she is just going to announce random stuff that have no positive impact to our lives just to get some votes

She is probably the worst „leader“

    18. 99thLuftballon on

You’ve got to hand it to the Tories for their consistency in deciding what the worst possible ideas would be and then backing them.

    19. TwentyCharactersShor on

Tbf we need to sort out speeding zones and penalties. The non-enforcement is beyond ridiculous.

    20. WarspitesGuns on

The core demographic she’s courting is the loudmouth twat down the pub that thinks he’s aristotle

    21. FaithlessnessOdd3569 on

Everytime you see the words ‚Kemi Badenoch‘ in a headline you are about to read the most daft, unhinged tripe ever

    22. Silent-Tea4500 on

No shame whatsoever in pandering to the stupidest, most selfish people in society

    23. ButterscotchTop194 on

Those zones where it’s been proven to help safety with negligible impact on journey times?

The tories have always been out of touch, so this is on brand.

    24. RoosterBurns on

Explicitly become the party for arseholes

„Are you an arsehole? Do you like speeding down residential streets, sending people off to die in pointless wars and watching kids starve? We’re the party for you!“

    25. Unusual_Wind_7270 on

The 20 speed limit in North London near me has actually been very good.

    26. RaymondBumcheese on

You don’t need to pander to middle aged men anymore, you’ve already lost their vote.

    27. The Tories are getting to the point, like the Lib Dem’s, where people don’t take their statements seriously.

    28. The warped view of all these Clarkson types piss me off. They are miserable bastards who want to make things worse for people.

They spent last few weeks moaning about billion pound price gouging supermarkets being robbed but glee at laws they want to reverse.

All about laws, until they aren’t. Funny.

Dubai grifting tax avoiders with English flags on their online bios.🙈

True patriots care about their fellow Brits. That includes road safety.

Reducing any road safety laws is costly, to life. Joke.

Kemi Badenoch has done nothing impressive in either public or private sector.

    29. So she’s going to allow anyone rich enough to not care about fines, to get away with speeding with impunity, whilst still punishing the poorer, but still rule breaking speeders.

Remember, if a rule’s punishment is a fine, it’s a rule against the poor.

      Typical Cons(ervatives) doing Cons stuff

    30. aleopardstail on

given the chances of the conservatives winning the next election she may as well promise a unicorn to go with it

also either have a law *and enforce it* or don’t have the law in the first place

all „no points“ means is 20 limits become „pay as you speed“ roads

    31. MuddlinThrough on

Aren’t 20mph zones typically used around schools??

Surely that’s the worst bloody place to do this

    32. Maybe she should redo her GCSEs.

      Kinetic energy; KE = (m*v^2)/2. For a 1500kg car:

      20mph (8.94 m/s) = 60,000J
      30mph (13.41 m/s) =135,000J

This 10 mph increase results in a 2.25× increase in kinetic energy. Even going just 5 mph over the limit results in a 50% increase. For a pedestrian or cyclists, it can mean the difference between life and death.

    33. HedgehogTail on

20 mph is fine past a school or hospital, not „because small village“. Half the villages around me have this limit and yet there’s not a soul to be seen. It’s been put in place by busy body locals that love to waste other people’s time rather than for any actual safety concern.

    34. Fucking bullshit pandering to win stupid votes.

Why can’t one fucking politician/political party find a fucking genuinely beneficial hill to die on like fixing the NHS.

    35. I may not agree with 20mph zones but this is a crazy idea trying to attract idiots to the vote, shameful

    36. That’s all well and good until some child gets killed outside a school by a speeding motorist. At 20MPH, a child has a much better chance at survival if hit by a car.

    37. Christ they are desperate for votes, but this is one of the most stupid things ive read this year and I read a lot of trumps nonsense.

    38. PresidentPopcorn on

This is how she’s trying to win votes? By making residential areas less safe for kids. What a prick.
