Or hear me out, fitness requirements.
not going to help, make them walk a bit more and ban e-scooters 😂
I don’t mind occasionally eating deep fried food, but sacrificing it from school menus is a good idea because the obesity epidemic is a pressing issue we need a firmer stance on.
Especially kids shouldn’t be obese and lose years of their lives because of parents‘ terrible decisions, so giving them healthy foods at least at school is a good idea.
That’s really useful, because it’s carbohydrates that cause obesity, not fats. Well done, UK!
Good. I wish we’d spend more money on making sure kids have good nutritious food in school.
Took them a while huh?
Should try out what they’re doing in Japanese schools. Have a dedicated nutritionist put together healthy meals from core produce.
And also teach children to make meals from scratch.
Honestly seems reasonable, as long as they don’t just replace fried stuff with ultra-processed sugary crap. Even one rule like “fruit or veg automatically comes with every meal” would help.
Speaking as a former chubby kid, school meals weren’t why I was fat. It was all the junk I had access to, and the complete lack of nutritional education at home.
Lol
Good. It shouldn’t be eaten everyday.
It isn’t a magic bullet but it certainly won’t hurt things. The challenge of processed food being the cheapest option combined with a worrying amount of people who don’t know how to cook is, I suspect, *more* to blame.
How common is deep fried food in the English schools? I think we got french fries two times over the 12 years I ate school lunch in Sweden and that’s all the deep fried food I can remember.
This makes total sense tbh.
If nothing else, fatty foods are just a deferred cost to the nhs
Its the sugar not the fat
Still better than nothing
On one hand deep fried isn’t great.
On the other hand crispy fried fish is basically the only way to get northern European kids to not sigh deeply every time fish is on the menu
Meanwhile all the high sugar products… *nothing to see here, move along!*
>Under the new guidelines, desserts such as ice cream and waffles
What sort of school was serving ice cream and waffles?!?
TBH I think this may be barking up the wrong tree, it looks good on paper but it’s only one meal a day, 5 days a week, during term time and only for kids who get school meals. It also doesn’t impact the exercise side of things, whilst for adults diet should really be the focus when it comes to weight I’m not sure the same is true for growing kids.
Wow. That sucks…
