What is a Union? A **union** or **union parishad** also known as a **rural council**, **rural union**, simply **union**, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in [Bangladesh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangladesh), with [zila parishads](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_councils_of_Bangladesh) (district councils) being the largest rural authorities and [upazila parishads](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upazila#Upazila_parishad) (sub-district council) being the intermediate level.

In most unions Hinduism is always there as a minority, even though they make 10% of the country they aren’t really located in a dense area

From what I understood from Bangladeshi Hindu friend is that they are similar to Indian Muslims, as in they are rather spread out and make a significant minority in many areas, but never a clear majority.

Would be nice to compare this with a map of East Bengal in 1941. The region was around 30% Hindu as compared to 7% today.
