>Magyar is often described as conservative liberal, combining market-oriented economic views with an emphasis on civic responsibility, rule of law, and national culture. He frequently states that his movement seeks to move beyond the “old left–right divide” in Hungarian politics.[1]
>Magyar has expressed support for adopting the euro in Hungary once the necessary economic conditions are met. He argues that adopting the common currency would strengthen financial stability and Hungary’s position within the European Union.[48]
>Magyar defines himself as strongly pro-European, supporting deeper cooperation within the European Union and alignment with Western democratic values. He has criticized the Orbán government’s confrontational stance toward EU institutions and its close relations with Russia.[49]
>On the question of Ukraine, Magyar has previously expressed concern about the accelerated accession of Ukraine to the European Union, stating that together with calls for Ukraine joining NATO, these „increase the chances of World War III“.[50] He however does not oppose Ukraine’s EU membership wholesale, while also having to thread a line between Orbán’s accusation of himself serving at the behest of Ukraine.[51]
>During the 15 March 2025 national commemoration, and the seventh major demonstration, Magyar wore a traditional Bocskai suit, a style often associated with conservative and patriotic symbolism in Hungary. His choice of attire was widely interpreted as a gesture towards national tradition and cultural heritage.[52]
>In February 2026, during a campaign stopover in Bicske, Magyar has claimed that Filipino workers at a Samsung battery factory in Göd have been eating ducks and goldfish they have captured from the Budapest Zoo, in a commentary that has been seen as reminiscent of Donald Trump’s claims about Haitian migrants.[53]

If Orban loses it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next, considering what happened last time.

I unfortunately believe the best that can happen is that when orban wins by a surprising margin, the whole country riots.

I know nothing about the other guy, but I do know Orban has to go.
Fingers crossed! What will happen to the ostrichs?
( better known for his zebras. Also maybe a rhino?)
As an Australian, foreign elections are something I stay out of and try not to influence.
I do however hope the Hungarian population elect representatives that represent their best interests and not those of other nations.
Remember to vote. The turnout needs to stay high. Inaction empowers the oppressors.
