I’m not Canadian, can someone shine some light on this. Were Canadians paying 70% of their defense to USA ?

Who’s gonna attack Canada? Other than USA that is, given fucked up Donald’s comments about 51st state…

Now lets cancel all the water deals we made with them decades ago where we are obligated to send quantities of our water their way even if we are in a drought and they pay us next to nothing for it and then bottle it and sell it back to us at a premium

If they are worried about us being able to defend ourselves, it shouldn’t matter where the money is spent, right?

US manufacturing just doesn’t hold up any more. Better alternatives elsewhere.

Like Canada has ever cared about spending money on their military. In the last decade the highest they spent was 1.39% of their GDP on their military

The US is a huge exporter of defense products. Europe and Canada want to look elsewhere now. Unfortunately for Canada there is still a lot of legacy systems already bought from the US. Look up the story on the Riverclass Destroyer and how a 90% Canadian solution got turned into an American one.

    7. Europe is doing the same thing. They were wholly reliant on the US for weapons, but their Readiness 2030 plan wants to go 80% domestic by 2030. US companies are getting frozen out.

After years of the US asking its allies to spend more money on defense it looks like they are. Losing major markets like EU and Canada will diminish economies of scale and make the US defense more expensive. Hoisted by your own petard.
