Nothing deep here. These talks were always going to be a hogwash. Iran was never going to give up on its nuclear weapons dream ever, and now they have another card in control over Hormuz Strait to play.
’21 hour marathon‘
Pathetic attempt to save face. Even if all of those 21 hours were spent at the table, which they weren’t, a conflict like this could be expected to take far, far longer to hash out a meaningful diplomatic solution.
Vance and co went in with no real intention of anything other than dictating terms and had to retire with tails between legs when the Iranian delegation didn’t submit. There were never going to be meaningful results with this lot in charge of proceedings rather than trained diplomats.
No doubt it will be spun for domestic audiences but the wider world can see the US are very quickly becoming stuck in this quagmire of their own making with no good options for solving it – something the Iranians are aware of also.
Absolute nothing article
I mean – talks when the „mediator“ literally doesn’t recognize Israel – a major belligerent – as a state? What were we expecting here?
India should mediate Iran-US truce instead of Pakistan. India has good relations with Iran, US and Israel and has the economic heft to have a meaningful impact on such mediation.
The difference between Vance and the Iranian foreign minister is telling. One talks tough and acts exactly like a bully while the other explains their stance articulately and with calmness. Guess which one normal people around the world gravitate to?
