  1. Sorry what – isnt this captain obvious? Like who else could be more affected than those seeking to obtain the thing that is increasing in price

  2. Is this a joke? Hunger mainly affects those that can’t afford to buy food.

These are the people running this country. God (or whatever you believe in) help us all.

Someone or several someones got paid – probably quite a lot between salary and benefits – to prepare this briefing.

That seems rather self-evident. If a thing is more expensive an in short supply, doesn’t it follow that those it affects are the people wanting to buy it, and those who rely on a substitute for that good (i.e., renters) as rental unit supply becomes tighter?

  5. Typical Ottawa bias. The people approving these notes are typically senior-level bureaucrats in Ottawa. Most have been there for decades and have purchased their homes 25 years ago. They see increase in home prices favourably because it is favourable for them. So they will produce analysis that reinforces their perspective and find data to support it. They only notionally understand what is going on in markets that have major affordability issues. (Ottawa is the wealthiest city in Canada when looking at per capita ratio.) So we have system that largely advocates for status quo and leads with this economic lens, with a small group of social policy analysts trying to balance the perspective but largely being shut down from the decision-making process.

I’m old enough to remember when housing and cost of living were the number one priorities among young Canadians, who demanded immediate results from the Trudeau government. Carney’s been in power for a year now and both have gotten measurably worse yet those same people continue to view him with awe and reverence. Curious.
