Ground drones (UGVs) are already saving lives on Ukraine’s front line — but there are critically not enough of them under constant FPV drone threat.
In this report, soldiers of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade use unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to deliver water, food, and ammunition to frontline positions.
Under constant FPV drone threat, these robots help reduce casualties. But when a robot breaks down or runs out of battery, soldiers are forced to walk several kilometers under fire.
A 54-year-old operator with the callsign “Sid” represents a new reality of war — after just a few days of training, he is already operating a combat ground drone. This is a new kind of war — and new rules of survival.

  2. Love the fact that Ukraine is kicking Russia’s ass. Don’t love the fact that we’re fielding T-1 Terminators.

I am working on a general concept for large UGVs. Once you realise the advantages from not having a crew, and approach with a clean sheet, you come up with something that not only has advantages over conventional tanks in the same role, although with some drawbacks as well, you end up with all new strategic capabilities.

One of those new strategic capabilities is that the future tank becomes more like a mobile minefield, providing extended loiter and area denial. Preconfigured to geofenced locatioms where it can operate and move between, silent hybrid electric range extended tanks also can fully use acoustic detection of targets and threats.

  4. if it goes another few years, hopefully not, you gonna see full 2 legged robots carrying guns.
